Description: 

Dr. Andy True, Assistant Superintendent - Administration, will lead a celebration honoring the Kingsport Board of Education in recognition of Tennessee's "School Board Appreciation Week" (January 25–31, 2026). 

Each year Tennessee celebrates "School Board Appreciation Week" as a way to honor our local school board members. School board members champion student success, advocate for strong schools, and govern with the needs of their communities at heart. As elected leaders, they serve as the local voice in public education, helping guide the direction and long-term vision of our schools.

The designated week is a chance for the community to thank these individuals for their unselfish giving of time and service throughout the year. It is a time to focus on the crucial role an elected school board plays in our community and schools. School board members focus on key priorities, including:

• Establishing a clear vision for the district and placing student achievement at the forefront;
• Setting strategic direction to help all students reach their highest potential;
•  Monitoring progress to ensure district goals are met and learning expectations are achieved;
• Fostering a safe, healthy, and positive environment for students and staff;
• Building partnerships throughout the community to address shared challenges; and
• Committing to continuous improvement through reflection, evaluation, and refinement of practice that impact student success.

Books will be donated to school libraries on behalf of the 2026 Kingsport Board of Education — Dr. Brandon Fletcher (President), Mrs. Melissa Woods (Vice President), Mr. Todd Golden, Mrs. Jamie Jackson, and Dr. Phillip Marshall.

Description:  Dr. Janice Irvin, Director of Early Childhood Education and Principal, Palmer Early Learning Center, will provide a report on Kingsport City Schools Early Childhood programs. A link to the presentation is below.

Description:  Dr. True and Ms. Marybeth Kench, Communications Coordinator, will provide a brief overview of the 2024-2025 Kingsport City Schools Annual Report. A link to the presentation is below.

Description:  Dr. True will review four revised policies for Board consideration on First Reading at the February meeting.

Description:  This is an information-sharing opportunity for Board members to communicate any news and/or updates from committees on which they serve.
