3. CITY OF WIXOM CHECK PRESENTATION
The City of Wixom held its first Gala on March 8, 2024. In addition to a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction, the Gala designated Walled Lake School's McKinney-Vento program as the beneficiary of donations collected at the event. Mrs. Patti Harthun, Student Services Manager, and Mrs. Tammy Hunter, McKinney-Vento Liaison, presented at the event and spoke about the services the McKinney-Vento program offers, the funding uses, and provided information on homelessness in the Community. We welcome Ms. Kathy Venagas, City of Wixom, who will present the donation check. |

Mrs. Cathy Kochanski, Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services, will review pertinent district assessment data from 2023-2024 and provide an overview of curricular, instructional, and professional development initiatives. |
9. PROCLAMATION: VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION WEEK
While we honor individual volunteers, as well as outstanding staff members through our Golden Apple Award program, we do feel it is appropriate to honor the legions of volunteers we have working throughout the schools each day of the school year. The week of April 22 through April 26, 2024, has been designated as Walled Lake Schools Volunteer Recognition Week.

14. MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH TEXTBOOK RECOMMENDATION
The current middle school math curriculum, Lappan, G., et. Al., CMP3: Connected Mathematics. Pearson (Savvas), 2014, was adopted and purchased in 2015. This curriculum no longer aligns with our Michigan Department of Education Mathematics Standards. Based on the results of the examination of available curriculums, it is the committee’s recommendation to adopt Anderson, G, et al., CPM: Inspiring Connections, CPM Educational Program (2024). This curriculum is aligned to the updated Michigan content state standards.The plan for implementation includes a roll in of the curricular change. Sixth grade will start in the 2024-2025 school year followed next year by seventh grade and eighth grade in the 2026-2027 school year. The cost of the sixth grade curriculum materials will not exceed $153,642.00 and includes all teacher and student materials, online access, and shipping. The process has been endorsed by Administration, and a motion for approval of the textbook purchase will be presented at the May 2, 2024, Regular Board meeting. |
15. HIGH SCHOOL ECONOMICS TEXTBOOK RECOMMENDATION
The current high school Economics curriculum, O’Sullivan, Arthur, Steven M. Sheffrin, and Grant Wiggins, Economics. Pearson/Prentice-Hall, 2010. was adopted and purchased in 2011. This curriculum no longer aligns with our 2019 Michigan Department of Education Social Studies Standards nor align with the C3 Framework. Based on the results of the examination of available curriculums, it is the committee’s recommendation to adopt VanFossen, Phillip J. Econ Alive! The Power to Choose, Teachers Curriculum Institute (TCI), 2020. This curriculum aligns with Michigan Content Standards and incorporates Financial Literacy instruction per new MDE graduation requirements. The cost of the curriculum materials will not exceed $57,042.00 and includes all teacher and student materials, online access, and shipping. The process has been endorsed by Administration, and a motion for approval of the textbook purchase will be presented at the May 2, 2024, Regular Board meeting.

16. HIGH SCHOOL CIVICS TEXTBOOK RECOMMENDATION
The current high school Civics curriculum, Bentley, J.H. and Ziegler, H.F. Traditions and Encounters: A Global Perspective on the Past, McGraw-Hill, 2008 was adopted and purchased in 2009. This curriculum no longer aligns with our 2019 Michigan Department of Education Social Studies Standards nor align with the C3 Framework. Based on the results of the examination of available curriculums, it is the committee’s recommendation to adopt Hart, Diane et al. Government Alive! Power, Politics, and You. Teachers' Curriculum Institute (TCI), 2020. This curriculum is aligned to the updated Michigan content state standards as well as NCSS Standards and is consistent with the C3 Arc of Inquiry Framework. The cost of the curriculum materials will not exceed $57,042.00 and includes all teacher and student materials, online access, and shipping. The process has been endorsed by Administration, and a motion for approval of the textbook purchase will be presented at the May 2, 2024, Regular Board meeting.

17. EQUIPMENT USAGE REQUEST - Memorial Day Parade
The Walled Lake Schools Transportation Department has participated in the City of Walled Lake’s annual Memorial Day Parade for many years. Walled Lake/Dean Transportation bus drivers drive the buses in the parade procession, which provides a good public relations opportunity during this highly anticipated community event. This year’s Memorial Day parade is on Monday, May 27, 2024. Administration supports participation by the Walled Lake Transportation Department and allowing them to use two Walled Lake buses for the parade. Walled Lake/Dean Transportation employees will donate their time to drive the buses in the parade and clean them afterward. |
18. BOARD POLICY ADOPTION
The updated Board Policies were provided for the Board's review at the Regular Board meeting on March 7, 2024. The updated policies are in alignment with the current law, and the Administration recommends the adoption of these updated Board policies.

19. BOARD POLICY ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS UPDATE
The following Board Policy Administrative Regulations have been updated to reflect the 2024-25 school year fees. -2001 AR Student Fees, Deposits, Fines, and Charges -7002-AR Use of School Facilities Outdoor Center -7002-AR Fee Schedule School Facilities Additionally, the following Administrative Regulation has been updated and form implemented for 8th Grade students attending the Washington, D.C. Trip. -2007 AR Health and Safety Update -2007 AR Authorization to Administer Over Counter Medication –DC Trip These updates are being provided as informational items prior to the Board Policy website update and notification. |
