Ag Mechanics
Course Description: In this course, students will learn the basics of shop safety with an introduction to O.S.H.A., proper tool use and identification, mechanical knowledge, small engine repair, gasoline engine repair, diagnostics, diesel engine repair, body and interior reconstruction, mechanical drivetrain, braking systems to include air, hydraulic, and hybrid braking systems, and fabrication. The Education Professions I class provides interactive experiences with students at different age levels in a variety of content areas in different educational environments. Education Professions II A/B
This class is designed to give students a deeper experience in the world of becoming a teacher and educator. Students will continue to learn about career choices, education structure and systems, theories, history, pedagogy, developmental stages, learning styles and instructional methods. Students will also have the opportunity to visit classrooms to work with current teachers and K-8 students. Students will work with a variety of age levels one-on-one, in small groups, or whole class. Students will be expected to create and implement a lesson plan. Students who successfully complete Education Professions I and Education Profession II will become an Education Professions program completer. Being a program completer shows colleges and future employers that you have gained practical and industry specific skills. Program completion increases employability and job readiness. Students who successfully complete the Education Professions program will have opportunities to take education classes through the community college while still in high school and have the potential to earn an associate in Education by the time they graduate high school. Children’s Literature A/B
A survey of children’s literature focused on grades PreK-8. This course includes the study of a variety of popular children’s authors, illustrators, and genres, and is designed to enhance students’ appreciation and analysis of literature with a focus on how to effectively choose and implement children’s literature in educational contexts. Math for Elementary Teachers 1 & 2
Course Description: This year-long course is made up of 2 MCC math courses, MAT160 & MAT161. This course is for students who are pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. MCC course descriptions are: MAT160: Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I provides a deep exploration of the mathematical principles, concepts and processes underlying current and evolving programs of mathematical instruction, grades K-8. Mathematical content includes problem solving, algebraic reasoning, set theory, number theory, and the development of algorithms for mathematical operations with natural, whole, integer, rational, and real numbers. This is a mathematics content course for future teachers. MAT161: Mathematics for Elementary Teachers II continues the deep exploration of the mathematical principles, concepts and processes underlying current and evolving programs of mathematical instruction, grades K-8. Mathematical content includes problem solving, reasoning, statistics and probability, geometry, and measurement. This is a mathematics content course for future teachers. CTE/IGSCE Digital Communications I A/B
In this course, the Cambridge International IGSCE Art & Design curriculum is used in tandem with the CTE Digital Communication program standards. This course combines the creative exploration of art and design with the practical skills of digital communication. Students will develop technical expertise in two- and three-dimensional media, including traditional and new technologies, while fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills in visual and tactile forms. They will also gain an in-depth understanding of news writing, editing, photojournalism, graphic design and media production, utilizing industry-standard tools and practices. Emphasizing personal expression, ethical considerations and professional standards, this program equips learners with lifelong skills and prepares them for advanced education or careers in art, design, and media industries. Change CTE/AS Digital Communications I to the name CTE/AS Digital Communications II Description of Change: After time teaching the course and a deeper dive into the Cambridge syllabus content and expectations, the teacher has determined that the content of the AS course better fits the second year of CTE expectations. In addition, the IGCSE ART and Design course will be used for year one starting with next year’s freshman, and the CTE/AS Digital Communications II will move to the second year. CTE/A Digital Communications II A/B
Cambridge International AS & A Level Digital Media & Design curriculum is used in tandem with the CTE Digital Communication program standards to allow learners to explore a range of processes and techniques in digital media. This course: develops an awareness of the world of digital media and design, develops learners’ creative processes and their ability to critically evaluate their work, encourages learners to combine innovative approaches and techniques to solve problems creatively, expands learners’ knowledge of digital media by exploring different designers, processes and concepts, prepares learners for further study and to work in a collaborative industry. Students develop leadership, social, civic, and career skills through participation in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). This course is the second of two in the CTE program. Completing both courses is required to become a CTE program completer which earns the student a graduation cord.
