VII.B. APPROVAL OF THE MICHIGAN COUNCIL FOR THE ARTS AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS GRANT SUBMISSION
Description:
In 2012-13, the EFA PACE (Professional Artists and Collaborating Educators) Program provided free dance and theater residencies to 2,474 Kalamazoo County K-8 students in 19 schools through regular classroom settings, specials classes, lunch-and-learn initiatives, and after-school programs. Participating students worked with professional teaching artists 1-3 times per week for 8-12 weeks. During the residencies, students learned the fundamental elements of dance and theater and explored the creative process. A prime focus of the residencies was for teaching artists to guide students in developing, editing, producing, and presenting their own creative work. It is anticipated with the assistance of 2014 $30,000 Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs grant that the PACE program will reach over 3,500 K-8 students in every Kalamazoo County school district.
