1. CALL REGULAR SESSION TO ORDER
Description:
The Regular Session of the North Santiam School District’s Board of Directors is called to order at 6:00 pm. It is an open meeting of the Board and the public is allowed to observe. On the agenda is a place for public comment. Those in attendance that wish to address the Board during this time must complete a public comment card and present it to the Board Secretary, Tonia Whisman. These orange cards are available on the table at the door. Due to confidentiality and liability issues the Board cannot hear complaints against staff in an open session.

4. SPOTLIGHT:STAFF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Description:
Danielle Flood will be acknowledged by the Board for receiving the Outstanding Early Career Classroom Teacher Award from the Oregon Science Teachers Association after being nominated by SHS Vice-Principal, Vicky Storey.

5. STUDENT BUSINESS

5.1. ASB Report
Description:
Stayton High ASB President, Carlin Croff, will report on the activities of the student council.

6. PUBLIC COMMENT
Description:
We will now open the meeting to public comment. We value the time and initiative members of the public take to share their thoughts with the board. Please note that speakers will have three minutes to express their thoughts. The board’s role during public comment is to listen; if there is follow-up necessary, we will direct our Superintendent to do so. Remember that we all model the way for our students, and we ask that everyone share their thoughts in a respectful way. Finally, the law prohibits us from hearing complaints against employees in a public meeting. If comments include a complaint about a specific person, please follow the complaint policy which can be found on the table next to the comment cards. If there is anyone in attendance at this time, who has filled out a public comment card and wishes to address the Board, please step forward and state your name and address.

7.1. Business Director's Report: Jane Nofziger
Description:
The Dec financial report has been included for the Board's review. Jane will be present to answer questions.

7.2. Associate Superintendent's Report: Dave Bolin
Description:
Dave Bolin will report on the 2018-19 district and school report cards issued from OR Dept of Education.

7.3. Student Success Act Update: Dave Bolin
Description:
Dave Bolin will provide an updated on the District's progress to apply for Student Investment Account funds.

8. APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES
Description:
Due to the fact there were no other items in the Consent Agenda that typically occurs at this point, the agenda item was changed to reflect the only remaining item which is the approval of the meeting minutes from November 21, 2019.

9. NEW BUSINESS

9.1. Board Self-Evaluation Process
Description:
In the November meeting, the Board requested that they investigate OSBA's self-evaluation tool to be used place of the survey that has been used for numerous past evaluations (conducted every two years). OSBA provides an online board self-evaluation tool free because as a benefit of membership. The free report is only a summary of the board’s performance in five standards. A detailed report that looks at 22 benchmarks and 69 key performance indicators is provided to boards in a facilitated conversation “workshop” with OSBA at the standard ½ day workshop fee ($475) plus associated travel expenses.

In the second paragraph there are two links to additional research, which can be downloaded if that is desired. Sample reports have been included in the board packet as well. |

10.1. Student Enrollment:
Description:
Approximate enrollment totals have been included for the Board's review. A list by grade at each school has been included as an attachment. It was determined that some of the students in the SHS total column were actually enrolled in the alt. ed. program with Winema or the GED program (both off campus) and should've been reflected in the red totals below. Those numbers have been modified and the totals for October and November have been adjusted to reflect this change.
