Description:
We acknowledge that the sacred land that we live and learn on today belongs to the Takelma, Shasta, Modoc, Klamath & Umpqua peoples. We honor and acknowledge the traditional owners of the land we now call the United States. We recognize the Native American peoples' continuing connection to land, place, waters, and community. We pay our respects to their cultures, country, and elders, past, present, and emerging.

4.F.1) Policy AC Nondiscrimination
Description:
This required policy update adds Gender Identity as a protected class and contains some other minor wording changes.

4.F.2) Policy GBA Equal Employment Opportunity
Description:
This update adds several new protected classes to the list of those against whom employment discrimination is prohibited. These resulted from recent Oregon legislative actions related to pregnancy and childbirth, military service, nontraditional families, and juveniles.

Description:
This update made some modest wording changes.

4.F.4) Policy IL Assessment Program
Description:
This update removes references to Essential Skills requirements waived currently, adds Gender Identity as a protected class, and clarifies the steps for opting out of state summative assessments.

4.F.5) Policy JB Equal Educational Opportunity
Description:
This update adds several new groups to the list of protected classes following legislative actions in Oregon. In addition, because the overhaul of the Sexual Harassment policies a couple of years ago focused closely on Title IX, OSBA has recommended removing Title IX from this policy to avoid duplication.

4.F.6) Policy JFCF Hazing, Harassment, Intimidation, Bullying, Menacing, Cyberbullying, Teen Dating Violence, or Domestic Violence - Students
Description:
This policy has undergone a couple of revisions resulting from legislative changes and OSBA has now recommended deleting all of the old versions and adopting this replacement. The section on Notification to Parents and Guardians is the major new addition. This version also added headings for Training and Education, and Notice. The text in both sections remains the same.

12.D. OSBA Annual Elections Ballot 5 minutes
Description:
The Board is asked to cast votes on the following matters:
1. Candidate for the OSBA Legislative Policy Committee from the Southern region. 2. Resolution #1 affirms a proposal to create the Oregon Rural School Board Members Caucus and designate a seat on the OSBA Board of Directors and Legislative Policy Committee for this Caucus. 3. Companion Resolution #2 amends the OSBA Bylaws to designate a Caucus representative as a voting member of the OSBA Board of Directors and Legislative Policy Committee.

13. Announcements and Appointments

13.A. On Tuesday, November 14, at 5:00 pm, the Board will hold a Special Session for the purpose of approving the criteria for a new Superintendent and making additional preparations for the next phase of candidate recruiting. The meeting will be held in Room #3 of Lincoln School, 320 Beach Street.

13.B. The Board will hold a Work Session on Thursday, November 30, 2023, beginning at 7:00 pm via Zoom.
|
13.C. The next Regular Session meeting will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, beginning at 7:00 pm in the City Council Chamber, 1175 E. Main Street, Ashland. A Zoom link will also be available.

13.D. NOTE: The Board will not hold a work session in December, as Winter Break is from December 18-January 1, 2024.
