4.1. Building Report - Geil Elementary
Discussion:
Angela Morris, Geil Elementary Principal, presented to the Board and shared the school’s goals and themes for the 2026-2027 school year, with a primary focus on "Lifelong Readers!" To support this initiative, Mrs. Morris has implemented a 40-book challenge, encouraging each student to read 40 books throughout the school year. The overall building goal is to read 4,000 books. Mrs. Morris explained that the purpose of the challenge is to help students develop confidence in their reading abilities and build strong reading habits that will carry them through high school and into adulthood. In addition to strengthening reading skills, the initiative aims to foster imagination, curiosity, independence, and connection. By encouraging a love of reading at an early age, Geil hopes to inspire students to become lifelong readers. Several students also shared their experiences with the challenge, discussed their favorite books, and offered suggestions for a school-wide celebration if the building reaches its goal of 4,000 books. |

5.3. Superintendent's Report
Discussion:
Dr. Kory Knight presented to the Board:
There’s a certain fall feeling in the air, and it’s not just because the temperatures are dropping this week. The changing leaves, Friday night football games, and excitement of homecoming bring a sense of nostalgia and remind us what makes being part of a school community so special. Many of our fall activities are beginning to come to a close, but there is still plenty of Bulldog pride to celebrate! Girls State Golf at Monument Shadows Golf Course is happening now, with two of our own representing Gering. Our softball team wrapped up its season at districts last week, while Boys State Tennis and District Cross Country are on the schedule later this week. We will close out the week with our GHS Marching Band performing in both parade and field competitions this Saturday in Scottsbluff. We are proud of the dedication and hard work our students and coaches bring to these activities. Next week brings one of the most memorable traditions of the school year: Homecoming! This year’s theme, "Sea of Blue and Gold," is a fitting reminder of the pride we share in being Bulldogs. Monday kicks off the festivities with our annual Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally. On Tuesday, our volleyball team will take on Sidney, followed by Friday night football as our Bulldogs face Hastings. Our high school students will cap off the week with the Homecoming dance, creating new memories while carrying on a tradition generations of Bulldogs have enjoyed. Fall conferences will also take place throughout the week, providing an important opportunity to connect with families and celebrate student learning. By this point in the school year, Gering Public Schools has settled into familiar routines. Classrooms are busy, activities are in full swing, and our students and staff have found their rhythm. As the seasons change, I hope we all take a moment to enjoy it. Attend a game, watch the parade, cheer on our students, or simply take in the beauty of fall. These moments pass quickly, and before we know it, winter will be here. For now, I am grateful for the traditions that connect us, the memories we continue to make, and the privilege of being part of the Gering Public Schools community. There is something special about fall in our Bulldog community, and I am thankful to be part of it. |
