9.A. District Academic Report Card
Discussion:
Executive Director of Academics Ann Pettit presented an overview of the 2022-23 State Report Card data including historical and state average comparisons for ELA, Math and Science. She connected the data to the Strategic Direction Focus Areas of Identity, Ownership, and Adaptability. The report included K-12 action steps and takeaways. Attendance is part of the School Environment Indicator. There is a rise in chronic absenteeism, which is defined by the State as being absent 10% or more of enrolled days. There is a wealth of data included on the South Dakota State Report Card website.

9.B. Review of Calendar Committee Process and Preview of 2024-2025 Academic Calendar
Discussion:
Executive Director of Academics Ann Pettit reported on the year-long process to develop two calendar options for the 2024-25 academic school year. The Academic Calendar Committee with representation from certified, classified and administrative staff from multiple buildings developed the academic calendar options by using input from the staff and family ThoughtExchange, considering contractual and preferred components, and adding planned inclement weather days. The calendar options will be presented to Ed Council members tomorrow for their recommendation and come back to the Board for approval in December.

Tonya Amaral stated the Booster Club meeting is tomorrow night at the high school. The Douglas Drum Line brought home the Creative Sparkle Award from the Parade of Lights on Saturday. Amy McGovern attended the Box Elder Chamber of Commerce meeting last week. Winter Wonderland will be this coming Saturday. Tanya Gray attended the short business meeting for the Black Hills Special Services Cooperative before Thanksgiving. BHSSC will have its Christmas Party in Spearfish with the business meeting scheduled later in December. |
