1. Classroom Display Policy Discussion
Discussion:
What is the purpose of having the flag in the classroom?
Where is the line between district property and person displays? What messages are OK. Go Huskers, Support the Blue, LGTBTQ? Teach those kids how to think not what to think. We have time on our side. No decision or policy has to be in place right now. This is a complex issue. One committee member is concerned about the possible legal repercussions for being the first in our area to tackle this issue. What conversations are you having with students regarding the flag? Why is this the best approach to creating a safe space? When students ask you about it or share a different opinion, what happens, what is the conversation like? What does this mean to you? What are you trying to accomplish? Do you feel it has created a distraction in your class? Has it interfered with learning? How does board policy 6013 play with this topic? |
