September 14, 2026 To follow the Special Hearing - September Regular Board Meeting

Discussion:  President Stearns called the meeting to order 6:21 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was cited in the Budget Hearing. Roll call was taken.

Discussion:  Tina continues to mow, trim, pull weeds, and water the grounds. Viter Tree Service came to trim a tree in the commons. Heartland Sprinklers fixed a sprinkler on the football field. Tina thanked Mark Foster, Toni Terry, Mr. Seamann and anyone else that pitched in during her absence this summer. 

Discussion:  Dan mentioned it has been a great start to the school year and routes are running smoothly. Bus #4 had some repairs along with micro bus #25.

Discussion:  Ryan mentioned that Weathercraft came to repair two leaks. Culligan came to replace the correct water softener with a much bigger one, so less salt is used. Ryan finished laying new carpet, and replacing toilets in the JH locker rooms. Ryan serviced the cooling tower and cleaned all roof strainers. Noble Refrigeration came to fix a leak in the kitchen connected to the freezer. Hobart come to fix a wire shortage on the kitchen dishwasher. Mulch levels will be completed this week on the playground. The rest of the playground inspection went good. 

Discussion:  Mr. Seamann mentioned the football gate in August brought in $1,350. The Hudl tickets and streaming for August brought in $1800.12. Michael Gallegos will be our new head boys wrestling coach. Danette Anderson and Jacob Sitorius will be in charge of One Acts/Play Production this year. 

Discussion:  Mrs. Pavelka presented the Fall Maps Testing and DIEBLS data to the board. A new communication platform has allowed the teachers and staff members to communicate with parents and students easier. John Cook was the keynote speaker for the PLC day on September 8th. Mrs. Pavelka presented the behavior data from the start of school. It has been a busy month with 64 minor issues and 25 major issues being dealt with. The Pre ACT will be taken in October.

Discussion:  Mrs. Foster mentioned the Joint Public Hearing is on Wednesday at MPCC at 6:01 PM. The allowable growth percentage is 2% and the district is asking for 2.96%. Currently the district has 66 option in students and 29 option out students to equal a net option of 37 students. The fire alarm system is almost 20 years old and is required to be updated by the Fire Marshall. It is projected to be around $30,000. Currently, the district is getting bids for replacement. 

Discussion:  Congratulations to the Brady Board of Education who have received the Board of Excellence Award two years in a row.

Discussion:  Hope mentioned that FFA did volunteer work for the Cattleman's Ball, put on a lunch for Brady Day, and helped with the Boyer team roping. FFA members will be participating in Husker Harvest Days on Wednesday. FFA practices start next week to get everyone prepared for the livestock judging clinic on September 28th and Livestock Judging and Agronomy, Farm and Ag Business on October 7th. 

Discussion:  Reanna talked about Homecoming Week and how it was the highlight of the week. Almost $5,000 was raised to support the student council. Many students enjoyed the Float Parade with a request to change the time of the parade for next year. Students would also like to bring back the end of the day pep rally. The Student Council officer election will happen next week. 

Discussion:  General Fund is under budget by 2.61% and the Lunch Fund is under budget by 2.42%

Discussion:  The policy committee met on September 9th and reviewed the remainder of the policies in the 5000s. The recommendation is to review and leave as currently written.

Discussion:  The entrance on the south side of the school (on Popleton Street) needs to be replaced. Attached is a quote to replace the door for $12,626. This door has not been replaced in over 40 years and has become a security issue.

Discussion:  The geothermal unit above the hallway on the east side of the elementary (by the playground) needs to be replaced.  Two quotes were obtained: AJs: $15,496 and Walldingers: $9,573.95. Mrs. Foster would like to have a sit-down meeting and figure out why the quotes are way different from each other. Make sure everything needed is being quoted. 

Discussion: 

Brady Public Schools would like to implement Virtual School Health to improve access to timely, quality healthcare for our students and families. As a rural school district, access to pediatric and specialized healthcare can require significant travel and time away from school and work. Virtual School Health would allow students to connect with pediatric healthcare professionals without leaving the school, helping reduce missed instructional time and barriers to care.The program would provide access to acute care, support for chronic conditions, medication management, health education, medical questions, care coordination, and behavioral health screenings.Partnering with Children's Nebraska would also strengthen our school health services by connecting our students with pediatric specialists and providing support for our school nurse and health staff. Virtual care would complement, rather than replace, local healthcare providers while helping ensure students receive timely intervention and appropriate follow-up care.The cost to the district is $3,500 annually which includes all of the testing materials, visits, and technology to have virtual health at BPS. This is a unique opportunity we can provide to our students. Mrs. Foster would like to try it for a year and see how it goes. 

Discussion:  Review the 2026–2027 addendums for extra duties.

Discussion:  Annually, the board is to review the Option Enrollment Policy (5004). Mrs. Foster's process in accepting an option student is to first look at records to make sure the district can support their learning. 

Discussion:  Annually, the board declares certain grade levels, programs, classes, and school buildings to be at capacity such that no option applications into any of the following will be accepted.
The capacity in the following grade levels, programs, classes, and/or school buildings is as follows:

• Kindergarten: 15 students
• Each grade level in grades 1 through 6: 21 students
• Each grade level in grades 7 through 12: 24 students
• Students in special education programs requiring specific academic and behavioral support will be reviewed on a case by case basis for any student in special education wishing to option in to Brady Public Schools. 

The board decided to keep the numbers the same and to put a cap on special education in kindergarten at 14. 

Discussion:  The NASB State Education Conference is November 18-20, 2026 in Omaha. Mrs. Foster wanted to discuss which board members would be attending. 

Discussion:  Attached is a letter from the Brady Education Association (BEA) requesting to be recognized as the official bargaining agent for the 2028-2029 school year.
