X.A. Admission Costs to Athletic Events
Speaker(s):
Director of Schools
Discussion:
Discount tickets for students have been allowed in order to encourage students to attend ballgames.
Money is lost from the gate - $4000 ticket loss. Discussion from Mr. Hobbs as well as a sheet of costs for football - doesn't want sports to lose money. The superintendent suggests to the board that we pay for the officials for all home games, $40,000 is the approximate cost. Superintendent will come back with a plan if the board is interested. He will speak to the ADs. Keep the discount tickets and then pay for the officials - this includes middle and high school. Mr. Hobbs has done research - one suggestion is that this is a Family Pass for that school. Mrs. Herron suggested raising the price, covering part of the officials and holding the students responsible, allowing them to learn to raise money. Mrs. Baker stated that the East Side would appreciate the continued release of responsibility for ticket costs. Mr. Lane echoed Mrs. Baker's statement. Directive from the board to come back with a proposal. |

Discussion:
3.218.2, policy tabled about service dogs. Mr. Hobbs requested this be discussed tonight - there are 3 reps attending where there will be a session about therapy dogs in schools.
Mr. Mullins completed research by reading passed documents from 2023, Study from Australia, 2021. What is the purpose of the therapy dog? Who will be the handler of the dog? It has to have the support of the whole school. The welfare of the dog is in question as well. You can't expect the dog to have 8 hours of interaction per day with students. The keeper of the dog has a full-time job, then adds the keeper of the dog. The dog has to be trained by an AKC-approved organization. Mr. Mullins stated the positives as well as the concerns from the research. Mrs. Baker suggested that the new board members, Mr. Mullins and the attorney to have time to look at this policy. Mr. Mullins has suggested that parents have a chance to comment. |
