Discussion:  The pledge was led by Vice Chair Amanda Lee.

Discussion:  No one signed up to address the Board.

Discussion:  Dr. Cash announced:

• Lake Forest Middle School girl's basketball team is headed to the TSSAA Middle School State Tournament. 
• Bradley High School westling team is also headed to the State Tournament.We are celebrating our School Counselors, Teachers of the Year, Principal of the Year, and Supervisors of the Year. 
  • Our Principal of the Year is Jodie Grannan, Park View Elementary School
  • Our Supervisors of the Year are Emily Brown, School Nutrition Supervisor, and Angie Gill Tuck, Testing and Accountability

I just want to say how proud we are of them all.

Discussion:  Todd Shoemaker and Rene' Diamond, Instructional Supervisors, announced the Teachers of the Year for 2021-2022 school.  They are:

Elementary - Heather Donegan, Kindergarten Teacher at Valley View Elementary School
Grades 5-8 - Rebecca Hames, Lake Forest Middle School
Grades 9-12 - Emma Barnes, Walker Valley High School

Discussion:  February is CTE month.  Good things are happening and we would like you to follow us at thinkcte.org, on twitter, and on facebook, Mrs. Robinson, CTE Supervisor, told the Board. FFA works really hard and has been doing good things for over 50 years.  They have achieved the National Chapter Award at the Gold Level.  She introduced the FFA President, Brylie Campbell, so she could tell the Board about FFA.  Brylie began by telling the Board about their accomplishments this year - even with COVID.  They got to compete but had to wear mask and keep the 6 foot spacing while competing.  The students were so glad to get to compete.  FFA consist of Classroom:  Agriculture Classes, FFA:  The Club, and SAE:  Real World Experiences.  During the pandemic they challenged everyone on social media to plant their own garden.  This was the project they used to get their 53rd consecutive year Gold Standard Award.  They were honored in the National FFA magazine with this statement: " Bradley FFA took on a project straight from the history books:  victory gardens.  Similar to home gardens grown during World War II,  students grew their food with the  virtual help of their advisors."

Discussion:  Terri Murray, Federal Projects Director, gave a breakdown of how the ESSER can be spent that we have and will be receiving.  

ESSER 1 could be used for cleaning supplies, PPE, and technology.  

ESSER II - will be able to be spent in the following categories:

• learning loss for children
• addressing learning acceleration               
• addressing facility needs, maintenance and infrastructure.     It must be tied to COVID and learning loss or acceleration.     
• purchasing technology   
• addressing unique needs of specialty groups       
• planning long term closures.   
• providing mental health services.                  
• NO Salary increases or bonuses are included in ESSER II

Chairman Weathers asked how much money will we be applying for.  $6,994,966.43, Mrs. Murray told him.  Dr. Cash also told the Board that they are working with the State Department of Education advisors to be sure that all guidelines are followed.  The application must be in by March 1 and approved or denied by April 1.  There will be 2 years to administer the grant.

Discussion:  Bradley County Schools will have Summer Learning Camps with the ESSER Money for Learning Loss and Acceleration, Dr. Cash told the Board.  They will run 4 days a week for rising 1st-5th graders and 6th-8th graders.  The high schools will have the same summer school setup as they always have.  The camps will be at Park View Elementary, Waterville Community Elementary, and Hopewell Elementary schools.  

Discussion:  Mr. Drew told the Board that everything is progressing well at the PIE Center but there have been some unforeseen issues with COVID and 3rd party items that could cause some delays.  None will impact the April turn over of spaces to tennants.  No additional funding.  Lease documents are with Scott Bennett and should be in tennants hands soon.  

Discussion:  Mr. Bryson recognized Principal Patrick Spangler.  Mr. Spangler told the Board that this is the 100th year of the Ocoeean Yearbook for Bradley Central High School.  They will use it to honor Jerry Frazier.  A person that lived his life for Bradley County Schools.
