)
Rationale:
This policy was updated to reflect a revision to TCA 49-6-7003 which gives parents/guardians the right to inspect all instructional materials, to include all teaching materials and teaching aids used in the classroom. In addition, this statutory revision gives parents/guardians the right to inspect all tests that are developed by and graded by a teacher. Attached shows TSBA's recommendation. |
3. 4.401 Textbook Selection, Distribution and Care
Attachments:
(
)
Rationale:
This policy was updated to reflect a revision to TCA 49-6-2207(e) which requires that once proposed textbooks have been approved by the Board, the director of schools shall post the approved textbooks on the school system website and send notice to the commissioner of education. Attached shows TSBA's recommendation. The list can be found on our website under the "Parent Information" link. |
4. 5.112 Extended Contracts
Attachments:
(
)
Rationale:
The General Assembly recently repealed all state laws pertaining to the career ladder program; therefore, any and all references to the career ladder program must be removed from our policy. Attached shows TSBA's recommendation. |
5. 6.308 Bus Conduct
Attachments:
(
)
Rationale:
This revision stems from an incident in which a person entered a bus and confronted a student.
|
6. 6.309 Zero Tolerance Offenses
Attachments:
(
)
Rationale:
Removing the line addressing knives gives the director more leeway in determining if the knife was meant to be used as a weapon or not; as the policy reads, the director has no choice but to zero tolerance the student.
|
7. 6.4001 Student Surveys, Analyses, and Evaluations
Attachments:
(
)
Rationale:
This policy was updated to reflect a revision to TCA 49-2-211 which gives parents the right to inspect all materials related to a survey, analysis, or evaluation of any program, prior to dissemination. In addition, no student shall be required, as part of any program, to submit to a survey, analysis or evaluation that reveals certain information without the prior consent of the student (if the student is an adult or emancipated minor), or in the case of an unemancipated minor, without the prior consent of the parent. Attached shows TSBA's recommendation.
|
8. 6.601 Student Records Annual Notification of Rights
Attachments:
(
)
Rationale:
While our policy's language meets all of the FERPA standards, we wanted to add language to the policy that would limit the distribution of directory information upon parental request.
