Mrs. Treffer spoke briefly about some of the things that their parent group has been able to do for the school socially, financially, and to just support the teachers overall. She touched on a scholarship that they've been able to continue from one of their retired teachers, the Soup Supper which is an annual fundraising event for the school.

9.b. Longfellow
Speaker(s):
Laurie Bahl
Discussion:
Laurie Bahl and Wendee Powell presented for Longfellow Elementary. Mrs. Bahl spoke about a new group that they have created that is made up of a parent from each grade level, administration, one K-2 teacher, one 3-5 teacher, and a counselor. This group is tasked with bridging the gap created from COVID to help other parents feel welcome and comfortable at Longfellow. One of the things that the group identified as something that they could do better, is help parents make peer connections. In the near future, Longfellow will be having a Showcase Night to allow students to show off their work, but will also focus on allowing parents from the same grade levels to gather and possibly meet other parent peers that they didn't know before.

Dr. Dick thanked the Board again for their time and dedication, as School Board Recognition week was a week before the Regular Board Meeting. This upcoming Friday, we will be having a Substitute Appreciation Brunch to show our appreciation to all of our substitute teachers and paras that have stepped up to help our classrooms during the year when we needed them. All of our substitutes will also be receiving two free tickets to the Scottsbluff High School's Musical, "Big Fish" as a “Thank You”.
Dr. Dick talked briefly about how lucky we are with the relationships that we have created with some of our community partners. This last week, Platte Valley Company donated $125,000 to the Scottsbluff Public School's Foundation, to be used towards the new elementary school playground equipment. This morning, our SHS ESports group got to witness the unveiling of new gaming computers and a dedicated internet line for ESports thanks in part to our partnership with Allo Communications. |
