Call the meeting to order - 7:15 p.m.
Discussion:
Superintendent Hahne called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m.

Recognize Visitors - refer to "Open Meetings Law’
Discussion:
Superintendent Hahne referred to the open meetings law and welcomed visitors.

Discuss district activities relating to American Civics education and general results of the American Civics portion fo the naturalization test.
Discussion:
Mr. Prater and Mr. Wickizer, social studies teachers, each talked about the citizenship test given to Junior High students and seniors. The students pass the test easily and it does spark discussion regarding the citizenship process.

Public comment on American Civics education.
Discussion:
Mr. Wickizer also mentioned he talks with students about registering to vote and the selective service. Mr. Hahne spoke about the new embargoed preliminary state standards for social studies. There are five main areas of study within the standards. Mrs. Dittmer, 2nd grade teacher, spoke about how their social studies and CKLA lessons tie into history. She speaks to her students about their civic duty to respect public property. Mr. Black mentioned other elementary social studies lessons that include the branches of government, researching the history of each state, the presidents, 911, wars the US has been involved in, westward expansion, a visit by the mayor and a city council member as well as the 6th grade raising and lowering the flag each day.
