DISCUSSION ITEMS

Strategic Planning
Superintendent Evaluation Touchpoint

Discussion:

Strategic Planning - It is necessary to update this as it expires in 2024. Will start by gathering information from stakeholders to write a new plan with the district moving forward. The district will start the process in February with the support of Brian Pearson, a retired superintendent.
Superintendent Evaluation Touchpoint - The district currently uses the MASB evaluation tool and Superintendent McKenna is recommending looking into the Marzano tool that would align with what is used for teachers and principals. President Brown stated that the first evaluation wouldn't be now for McKenna but looking towards June 2024. The board would need to be trained on a new tool so it was discussed that Superintendent McKenna would bring an example and feedback to the board on the Marzano tool.

Mill Creek Academy Update

Discussion:

Construction Update - Continuing to work through bumps. The Elk Rapids Fire Department toured recently. The weight room glass is in but waiting on glass for the front entrance glass for the new high school office.
School Wellness/Sex Education Committee Meeting - Met last Monday and reviewed current plan with an internal audit of curriculum. Planned to meet next in May 2024.
ER Safe Meeting - Meeting next Monday
School Resource Office Update - Thank you to Officer John Rice for his initiatives within the district and his presence.
Mill Creek Academy Update - Everything is lining up as anticipated. Legal counsel guided that the urgency can slow down a bit. There were 10 applicants for the Mill Creek Academy board position that was posted. All met the deadline of December 1st at 4pm. It appears to be a very strong applicant pool and Superintendent McKenna stated that interviews will not happen before Winter Break but more towards February 2024. Superintendent McKenna called each of the applicants to relay this message.

BOARD OF EDUCATION CELEBRATING SUCCESSES

Discussion: Brown - The Winter Play was very well done and funny. Thank you to Rob Bachi!
Steffen - Loving this new space to hold board meetings. The Library Media Center looks great - thank you!
