6.1. Superintendent
Discussion:
Mr. Hoesing stated his report covers both discussion items as well as the principal's report. Covid-19 has almost doubled in the state last week, from 814 to 1474 today. NCDHD officials are backing up the peak of the coronavirus from late April to late May. On Thursday, the governor’s office, in association with the commissioners’ office, laid out stipulations on graduation, prom, or any large gatherings. It states clearly that any type of gathering MUST be at the earliest in July. That graduation MUST follow directive health measure guidelines, and anyone in violation of these guidelines or dates will possibly lose accreditation and the sponsor (ME) will lose their license. Today the governor stated that he allowed easement of elective surgeries. He also stated that with additional testing, we will be able to see the spread, and perhaps ease restrictions on a county wide or small area wide basis, especially in rural areas.
Locally, we are working the last few weeks on several fronts, including: Soft closing schedule, which includes: - April 24th - 7-12th grade assignments change from "Missing" to "zeros" so that kids know exactly what their grades are. - May 1st - Last day for Seniors who have their assignments completed. - May 8th - Last Day for underclassmen who have their assignments completed. - May 8th - 12:00 NOON - Deadline for turning in senior assignments. - May 22nd - 12:00 NOON - Deadline for underclassmen to turn in their assignments We are working really hard at trying to reach those kiddos that are not caught up before hand. We are starting planning for potential July Summer school in how that will look. I don’t want to do virtual summer school, I either want small groups of 10 or less, or nothing at all. Having our building ready will help that planning immensely. Our weekly meetings and fireside chats on Wednesday evenings are going well. We are averaging 200+ viewers for these chats, which really isn’t bad. People are allowed to ring in, ask questions, etc. Hopefully this is a better way to answer questions of the public rather than just send out letters. I want to thank all of the teachers and staff for participating in last Friday’s Drive Around! It was so much fun to see our little kiddos again, and it was very reinvigorating to see those kids out, as well as the staff. Unfortunately, Kindergarten Graduation is cancelled, however, Preschool and kindergarten will perform a virtual roundup before the end of the year, followed by a real one in August (before the fair). Graduation was discussed, as well as custodial positions and school nursing. Finally, Mr. Hoesing discuss how Nancy and he have started the FEMA application, to try to recover some of the areas lost to the pandemic. We are going to not even come close to making SPED Maint. Of Effort, which will impact our sped funding. We will hopefully try to make it up in FEMA funding. New Building: We are really working ahead on this schedule. Pedro Perez told me today that we can hang TV’s anytime, and we (office staff) can start moving in May 11th. I will probably close the school office for a few days during this transition, so Nancy and Katie can move without being bothered. I am also working on Future Planning: We need to start planning for our next St. Planning cycle in July. We will have our retreat in July (I will invite our two people potentially running for office as well as the 6 main stays & our WEA leadership committee. I need to meet with Building and grounds sometime next week to go over summer projects beyond the building (maintenance, etc.) |
