Monday, September 27, 2021 Discussion of Proposed Budget Revision #1 2021-22
Discussion:
The Budget Hearing began at 4:46pm. There were no questions from the Board or the public. The Hearing was ended at 4:56pm.

IX.A. Superintendent's Report

Discussion:
Linda Gibson introduced Jaclyn Shaw, the new Social Worker for the district. We are so thrilled to have her. She has been managing COVID information and working with Gila County. The cases are declining, so she has been assigned other projects. On Saturday, the Daughters of the Revolution had a presentation at the high school. Also on Saturday, the Rotary Golf Tournament raised $9000 for student scholarships. Teacher Glenna Spurlock was featured in the Edible Phoenix Fall magazine. Her team won second place. Mrs. Gibson wanted to clarify that the district does not solicit funds. It was people and business that approached the district to fund projects they are interested in, for example, the band uniforms and the refinishing of the high school gym floor.

IX.B. Governing Board
Discussion:
Audrey Hogue also wanted to thank the donors for the new wrestling mats.
Joanne Conlin thoroughly enjoyed the sensory hallway at JRE. She also was invited to experience PHS Reteach and Enrich classes. She said it was fantastic and the students have so many opportunities. Barbara Underwood enjoyed the Daughters of the Revolution presentation. It was so good to see students involved of all ages. She also enjoyed the JRE sensory hallway at JRE. She thanked MHA Foundation and Mogollon Sporting Alliance for the donations they have given the district over the years. |
X. PUBLIC COMMENTS - Members of the Governing Board shall not discuss or take legal action on matters raised during an open call to the public unless the matters are properly noticed for discussion and legal action.
Discussion:
Susan Ochoa had filled out a request to address the Board but was not in attendance in person or on the phone.

XI.A. Information and Discussion Regarding COVID

Discussion:
Linda Gibson again thanked Jaclyn Shaw for taking over the close contact and Gila County communications about COVID. Audrey Hogue asked that Gila County Health Department be on the phone for the next meeting. Barbara Underwood noted that the Arizona School Board Association rallied and Superior Court Judge Cooper had ruled that school board can exercise local control. It is very important to keep local control.

XI.B. Information and Discussion on Westerly Building Preschool Expansion

Discussion:
The Board was updated on the Westerly building that the district owns and where Head Start used to be housed. During a recent storm, the roof was damaged and the district filed a claim for damages. In that process, the district is considering opening a preschool in the building. The idea in still being worked on and a team will provide a presentation in the future.

The Board had a couple of questions on the timing of the incentives. Kathie Manning explained the rational and Mark Henning reported the difficulties transportation is having keep bus drivers.

Discussion:
We will invite the Gila County Health Department to be on the phone for the next meeting to discuss COVID.
Prior to budget season next year, plan a work session to look up to three years out. An Executive Session to discuss the Superintendent's evaluation. |
