October 14, 2016 at 4:00 PM - Superintendent's Weekly Update to the Board of Education
Minutes |

1. Audit Report
Description:
Please see attached the audit report to be presented and approved at the board meeting. Again, the audit came back very positively! We did have two deficiencies: food inventory and recordings for closed meetings not functioning properly. The few closed meetings we had did record, as shown in the minutes recording, but no voices could be heard. Mary had David order a new computer. The auditor said this happened in three other schools too. |
2. Educational Support Staff Recognition Event
Description:
We participated again in the Resource Training & Solutions Educational Support Staff Recognition Event. Please see attached a picture of our employees that will be posted on the school district web site and Facebook Page. There was also a news release to MCR. Congrats to the following school employees: Mary Fruechte (para at MS-HS) Dawn Hofstad (para at elem) Becky Pekarek (secretary at elem) Mike Weinand (custodian at elem) |
3. Plaque for Vern Barthel
Description:
Please see attached the plaque for Vern Barthel. It will be completed in the next two weeks. Then, we will schedule a ceremony with the family. |
4. Construction Budget
Description:
Please see attached Mary's response to the misinformation spreading around the community about the construction budget. We sent it to MCR and posted it on the district web site and Facebook Page. During her report on Monday, Mary will briefly share the facts regarding the construction budget and the $2 in LTFM funds. Remember they are two different things. And there were no increases in taxes as some people are sharing. |
5. Punch List Items
Description:
Please see attached the type of punch list items that remain for Areas A, B, C, and D at the MS-HS. The plan is to have several of them completed the days off for MEA break. |
6. District Goal to Raise ACT Scores
Description:
Please see attached the achievement of our graduates on the ACT over the past five years. The ACT consists of curriculum-based tests of educational development in English, mathematics, reading, and science desiganted to measure the skills needed for success in first-year college coursework. You will see from the report we are consistently behind the state average by approximately 2 points. The answer to below state average ACT scores is multifaceted and a work in progress. Last spring, Mr. Swenson and I decided our high school needs to participate in the John Baylor Prep program. We have heard about school raising their average composite ACT scores by as much as 2 points - just what we need. Attached you will learn about one Minnesota school's success with John Baylor Prep. Jim and I visited with a superintendent and board member from another school with similar success. |
7. Plumbing Problem
Description:
Last week the sanitary sewer backed up in Mrs. Bloome's classroom. Tony had Roto-Rooter come an investigate/fix the problem. A camera was sent down the pipe. Tree roots have grown through the pipes just outside the building and underneath the center of the classroom. They were able to auger through the roots to get things flowing again. In the near future this pipe will need to be excavated and repaired. |
