August 9, 2013 at 4:00 PM - Superintendent's Weekly Update to the Board of Education

1. Board Approved $300 Operating Levy
Description:
I will have a discussion item in the August board packet to discuss the $300 levy. Then, in September the Board can approve a resolution. A Board approved $300 operating levy will generate an additional $192,387 for district expenses. $150,174 (78%) will come in state aid and $42,213 (22%) local taxes. |
2. Facility Study Proposal for Royalton Public Schools
Description:
Please find enclosed Springsted's proposal to complete a facilities study. I will also include the proposal in the August board packet. Please let me know, in advance of next Wednesday, if you have any questions or concerns. I will not place it on the agenda for approval if there are concerns. |
3. District Policies on the Terms and Conditions of Emplyment for Non-Union Employees
Description:
Please find attached Kevin Rupp's review of the terms and condition of employment for our non-union employees. You will notice he included a four paragraph introduction making it clear this is NOT a contract of employment. The School District can revise the terms and conditions of employment at any time, without notice to its employees. The manual has been produced to inform employees of the School District's policies and benefits. |
4. Kevin Rupp's Response to Withholding Step Advancement for Teachers
Description:
Please find attached Kevin Rupp's response to withholding step advancements as the board committee negotiates a 2013-15 contract. I realize we gave REM a letter that the past practice will be broken with the ratification of the 2011-13 contract. Kevin's attached email to me lets us know we'd lose in a grievance. My question to the Board is "Do you oppose Kelsie including steps in their paychecks beginning this month?" We'll need to know if the Board wants go down the road of withholding steps or not. My recommendation is to negotiate necessary contract language versus creating further hard feelings with something we know we don't have a leg to stand on. |
5. Heat Wheel
Description:
Kevin from ESG said they've found some savings opportunities with our heat wheel. I'll let you know as I learn more. In part, we already know that without specifics and it's their attempt to remain included in a facilities project. |
6. Monthly Update from Gene's Repair - June 2013
Description:
Please find enclosed a monthly report from Gene's Repair. Holly handed it to me this week and said all buses are ready for the school year. Sue was given the same news and was thrilled. According to Sue, this is the earliest our buses have ever been ready for the school year. |
7. Approval of Weekly Bills
Description:
Please find attached the weekly bills for your approval. |
