Discussion:
We discussed 3 policies during the meeting. 4028 has a paragraph being added back in to designate substitute pay. 5056 - We discussed how and why it changed and the main emphasis was to not open it up to things that aren’t healthy for the school district. We also discussed 5099 and what we are open to do as far as testing. The policy does give us choices, which is good due to one of the tests not being 100% effective.

Mrs. Thorell’s Board Report
October 12, 2026 1. Crisis Team Meeting On September 29th, I took our Crisis Team to the ESU to receive updates and training on current school crisis protocols. We had several great discussions while there and revisited our updated Board Policies 3040 and 3041. After compiling the information we gathered at our ESU meeting, we returned to Loomis and took a closer look at some of the things we currently had in place. From there, I combined all of that information into an updated Crisis Manual for Loomis Public Schools staff. A few of our team members are also working on an updated informational pamphlet that will be sent out to families at the beginning of next school year to share our basic crisis protocols and keep families informed. 2. McTeacher’s Night Last Monday, October 5th, Loomis Public Schools partnered with the local Holdrege McDonald’s for our annual McTeacher’s Night, where our school received 50% of all digital sales made. The money earned from this fundraiser will go into our Sunshine Committee fund. There was a great turnout of Loomis families, and it appeared to be a great night overall for our school family. 3. UNK Partnership On October 13th, several students from the UNK Teacher’s College will be coming to Loomis to visit with Mr. Weaver and me about our school. They will receive a tour of our building and have an opportunity to visit classrooms, shadow teachers in their areas of interest, and experience an afternoon as a "Wolf." This not only creates an authentic experience for upcoming teachers, but also helps keep our pipeline strong for future educators who may be interested in LPS. Additionally, these same students will eventually be able to substitute later in their program, which is a valuable asset for us. 4. Family Literacy Night On October 19th from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, we will be hosting a Family Literacy Night with experts from Just Right Reader. There will be information about the research behind the Science of Reading and language and reading development in children, hands-on games and activities for families to participate in together, and practical strategies for parents to use to support reading with their children at home. |
