7.1. Nebraska Health Standards Resolution

Discussion:
The Nebraska Department of Education has proposed Health Education Standards that are outside the Silver Lake School Board of Education beliefs on what is appropriate for children to be exposed to at school. Board members signed the attached resolution.

Discussion:
Board members discussed the benefits of each location hosting home volleyball games. With the advantage of bleachers on opposite sides of the high school court and the ability of fans to spread out and social distance in the event of another Covid outbreak, it was voted to host home VB games at the high school for the 2021-22 school year.

Discussion:
Rule 10 requires that an annual status report is provided to the Board of Education. The district has a statement of philosophy for the multicultural education program. The district curriculum guides, framework, or standards incorporate multicultural education. The district multicultural education program includes a process for selecting appropriate instructional materials. The district has a process for provision of staff development in multicultural education including professional development for administrators, teachers and support staff which is congruent with local district and program goals. The district has a process for periodic assessment of the multicultural program. |

8.1. Superintendent
Discussion:
Mr. Bauer reported that ESU-9 will be hosting a conference on Hot Legal Topics for Area School Boards on August 25th at 6 pm. He thanked board members for a very productive retreat. The Budget Amendment Hearing is set for August 26th at 7:15 am. The special meeting will follow at 7:30 am. Mr. Bauer also reported on the health department updates regarding Covid. Football declaration will need to be decided next month. The school is considering 8 man competition.

8.2. Elementary Principal
Discussion:
Mr. Arntt reported that the Washington group will be hosting a back to school carnival on August 20th in the elementary gym. Farm Safety Day is set for Wednesday, September 22nd. 21 students participated in Jump Start. Preschool will have an open house on Monday the 16th and begin classes on Tuesday, August 17th. We are anticipating 27 – 28 preschoolers. Currently, plans include Grandparents for Lunch or a Pancakes for Parents this fall if it is possible.

8.3. Secondary Principal

Mr. Drake reported that fall practice is underway and will have participation numbers at the September meeting. August 11th, the ESU-9 staff will be working with the staff. August 12th is the 1st day of school. August 13th, the FFA will be hosting a Back to School Bash and on August 18th, a TVC Coaches / Sponsors meeting has been set. Rutt's replaced an AC unit in the HS Principal's office and Room 114. In addition, Mr. Drake, Mr. Sluka and the College and Career Readiness committee are working on a job shadowing program.

Discussion:
Budget Amendment hearing is set for 7:15 am on Thursday, August 26th at the elementary in Bladen. Special meeting to approve the amended budget to follow the budget hearing.
The 2021-22 Tax Request Hearing, Budget Hearing, and Regular September board meeting will take place at the elementary in Bladen, on Wednesday, September 15th at 7:00 pm. |
