Knott- Shout out to all the fall activities that have kicked off in the last couple of weeks. The coaches and students are working hard and putting in a lot of time Roberts- VB team off to a great start (5-1). Doug Koch announcing JH & JV games. Frey- Dozler farms for their beef donation Stuhr- All staff who are doing a great job getting the school year off to a great start Fogleman- Joel Sup for all he does, he is always willing to step up and help out where needed. McDonald- I have two recognitions. Shout out to our paraprofessionals for dedicating each day to our students and providing a caring environment. Also, thank you to our substitute teachers who continue to provide quality services to our students each day they are at BCS! Larsen- Nurse Jen Molt has added the role of "Teacher" to her job description for this school year. In partnership with CCC as well as our wonderful hospital in town, we are offering a CNA class for the first time this semester in support of our Health Sciences Pathway in the Career Academy This will help students grow their capacity by the time they graduate from Boone Central to grow in their education while helping set them up to support the needs in our community and beyond. Nurse Jen has been instrumental in working to get this class organized and up and running for students. I appreciate her work as well as the work of Mrs. Chelsea Gaunt who also played a large part in getting this class from an "idea" to fruition. The work of these two has helped to Create an Opportunity for students at Boone Central! Curry- Jessica Volker has stepped into the role of teaching College Algebra & facilitating Calculus in coordination with Wayne State in addition to her middle school 8th grade Math & Algebra duties. Additionally, Dr. Volker continues to support our middle school students serving in the role of our SAT coordinator. She is a fantastic teacher who works hard to give her students the best she has to give! Kayton- I would like to thank Lauren Mrsny for all of the time and effort she put into the beginning of the year enrollment, benefits, and so on. She was available to answer staff members' questions when they came up! The whole process was moved online and it went pretty smoothly and was quick and painless! Thank you, Lauren! |

6.3. Continuous School Improvement
Discussion:
Mrs. Kayton - We continue to focus on our goal: Students will demonstrate growth in math, specifically number sense, as measured through formative and summative assessments. In our upcoming PLC meetings, we are discussing how math, specifically number sense, is already present in classrooms such as science, social studies, etc. The discussion will focus around what we are already doing and can put an emphasis on rather than, what new thing I have to do! The elementary moved to FastBridge for screener testing this year. We used to be DIBELS which only had a reading component whereas FastBridge has a math component. We are now able to test students in the area of math, progress monitor, and use the data to improve our math skills. We also implemented math intervention time into our daily schedule this year. We are hoping these changes lead to us achieving and making progress towards our school improvement goal.

We will again partner with the Columbus Chamber of Commerce to offer the ‘Reality 101’ program to our 8th graders this spring. We will host this in the afternoon after returning from NECC for our college visit where they learn about different career opportunities & programs of study. Our students have appreciated our lunchtime. Last year we dismissed to eat at 12:45. This year we dismiss at 12:05. We also do a split-lunch/recess where 7th & 8th-grade students go to recess for the first 10 minutes while the 5th & 6th grades eat, then the 5th & 6th graders go to recess for the last 10 minutes. This has provided a little quieter lunchroom and a better-supervised recess. Our PBIS team is focusing this year on 10 "Cardinal Essentials" to align with our mission of being respectful, responsible & safe. This week we are focusing on the important task of making eye contact when someone is speaking. Grandparents Day: We will be hosting Grandparents/Special Friends Day this Friday. We will begin the morning with a little program that Mrs. Thome has organized. Then students and their guests will go to the classroom for activities followed by a sack lunch and recess! I would like to thank Tyson for donating 180 lbs of ham! Elementary Community Coffee: Tomorrow I will be taking a group of 2nd graders with me to The Dotted Daisy for our first Community Coffee of the year. Students will be sharing their All About Me writing. We are excited to see the great work that is happening during our built in writing time and with our new writing curriculum. All Day Preschool: Things are going great! Teachers, parents, and students seem to be loving how this is playing out. Thank you school board for the support during this change.
