III. RESIDENT INPUT:
Resident input allows visitors to briefly address the board on educational issues. Each speaker has up to 3 minutes and may speak only once. This time is for the board to listen attentively, not for dialogue or debate. The board will not respond to statements, questions, or challenges during public comment. Silence from the board is neutral—it does not indicate agreement or disagreement. All comments should be addressed to the board via the board chair. The board chair may ask a clarifying question, and district staff may follow up later. Any physical documents for the board must be given to the board president, who will distribute them to members. Speakers are reminded that they, not the school district, are responsible for their words. Comments may not violate the rights of others under laws protecting privacy or prohibiting defamation. If you are unsure of the legal impact of your remarks, seek independent legal advice. |
