Rationale:
According to SDCL 13-27-3.1, any person who is required to cause any child to attend any public school in this state shall, either at the time of enrollment or within thirty days of initial enrollment, provide a certified copy of the child's birth certificate. A violation of this section is a Class 2 misdemeanor. SDCL 13-27-3.3 provides that those not complying be reported to the school board. If not corrected within thirty days after the report, the state's attorney shall be notified.

Rapid City Christian dissolved the RCC/Douglas/NU co-op from soccer effective Fall 2024-25. Douglas and New Underwood ADs would like to continue on as a Douglas/New Underwood Co-op for the sport of soccer starting Fall 2024-25.

Rationale:
Douglas School District leadership, like others, should responsibly consider how AI might affect the work and learning environment. It is our belief that while care should be given to understanding the potential pitfalls of AI use, it is a technology that will increasingly drive the world our students will experience. This policy draft offers a position we believe embraces the technology while establishing the expectation of teaching, learning, and workplace integrity.

Rationale:
Policies within Section J, Students need refreshed.
JECB is the district open enrollment policy. The policy provides the district's Emergency Clause definition for the enrollment of military and staff member children. Redundancy was removed from the policy. Policies JED through JEDA-E3 are being postponed for First Reading at the request of Exec. Directors. More work is being done at the Principal level to develop processes and definitions of Excused/Unexcused absences and the accounting process for those excuses. More information will follow. JEDB expands language to include student dismissal from out-of district after school activities. JEG includes language that identifies GED and Religious Exemption as permissible exclusions under Compulsory Attendance Laws. Designee and grammar corrections occur within other policies.

Replacement of HS Roof was previously approved through Capital Outlay. Bid Opening was held 3-28-24
Four companies bid the project, and met all requirements. Low bid was from All-American Roofing and Sales, $1,033,679.00 Recommend accepting the bid from All-American Roofing and Sales.
