The Acadience Reading K-6 literacy assessment provides brief, formative indicators of the essential skills necessary for proficient reading in grades K-6. 

Designed to predict early reading success and identify students experiencing difficulty in the acquisition of foundational literacy skills, Acadience Reading solutions provide early literacy support to prevent later reading difficulties.

Acadience Reading helps teachers identify children at risk for reading difficulties and determine the skills to target for instructional support. Acadience Reading K-6:

• provides universal screening
• detects when students need extra support
• is sensitive to effects of intervention
• supports the RtI/Multi-tiered model

Rationale:  Douglas School District would like to develop a prekindergarten program to recognize the needs of the community and our students.  Prekindergarten programs aim to support the early cognitive, social, and emotional development of young children. By providing a structured learning environment at an early age, children can develop essential skills that set the foundation for future academic success.

Our intention is to offer one classroom per building at Patriot Elementary.  We will fill spots based on an as-needed basis utilizing the following criteria: 

• The child qualifies for special education and/or speech services.
• The child meets the federal income guidelines for free or reduced lunch.
• The child qualifies for English Language services (the household and child speaks another language besides English)
• The child has been in the foster care system or is homeless.
• The student is a child of active duty member of the armed forces.
• The child comes from a single parent household.
• The student is a child of teenage parent.

Rationale:  The School District Family Services Worker is a key figure in supporting the overall well-being of students and their families within the educational community. This role encompasses developing, implementing, and coordinating social services programs, addressing diverse needs, and promoting a holistic approach to student success. Additionally, as a Family Services Worker, your responsibilities include providing individualized casework services and collaborating with parents, school personnel, and external agencies to ensure a positive and inclusive school environment.

Rationale:  Policies Section J, JGD- JOB-E were presented for First Reading during the Jan. 8, 2024 meeting.  These policies are in need of revision due to original adoption date, updates in language, SDCL etc.

Since FIRST READING, Exhibit JGD-E has been altered to soften language and clean up grammatic errors.

No additional changes proposed.

Rationale:  Policies JHCC - JHCD-E were in need of revision due to changes in Health Requirements since 2016.  The attached changes were recommended by our school nurses.  

Changes include, update in communicable diseases list, removal of incubation periods, addition of school nurse to advisory committee and update to District Medication form.
 

Rationale:  Policies KA-KK within the School Community Relations portion of the Douglas District Policy manual are in need of revision.

The majority of these policies are for review only and contain few changes.  Others contain Superintendent/Designee changes.

KBC News Media Relations, KBCA News Releases includes reference to Communications Coordinator as the primary point of contact. 

We propose deleting KG-E Building Use Application.  Building Use agreements are now completed online making this triplicate form unnecessary.  

KGC adds a reference to Vaping to coincide with the recently approved Student Smoking policy.

 

Rationale:  Policy IKFA and Exhibit IKFA-E are in need of revision.  Item 7 references the Alternative Education Program.  That program was recently changed creating the need to delete this item from the Early Graduation policy.
