February 17, 2020 at 7:00 AM - Board of Education Regular Meeting

Discussion:  Amber Kosmicki and Donnette Johnson were in attendance.

Donnette Johnson updated board on projects with Teammates Program and the donation of a buddy bench to the upper elementary building in Hildreth.

Discussion:  Superintendent Patterson reported on the following:

1. Construction Updates
   1. Kitchen measurements will be completed by the end of the week
   2. West Addition
      1. drywall is being installed, fire tape in the ceilings, walls will be taped by the end of next week,  one month away from painting, flooring and tile work
      2. insulation for drain line being installed
   3. North Addition
      1. Steel for the gym in being erected
      2. Concrete for the gym floor will be poured in about a month
2. The new website is up and running as well as a new app available 
3. School Calendar option will be presented to the board next month with options to work around the construction project.  

Discussion:  Mrs. Kelly Simmons reported on the following items:

1. Parent-Teacher Conferences went very well with good attendance.
2. Spelling Bee was held on February 8 with eight students attending and three students placing.
3. Health Screenings will be held this Wednesday with Shannon Bauer, School Nurse and Lions Club.
4. PBiS (behavior support team met for another day of training in North Platte on Jan. 29)
5. MTSS team also met for Day 4 training at ESU 11 on Feb. 1.
6. Mrs. Mach and I organized events for Random Acts of Kindness Week.  We had a presenter form the Kim Foundation present on Mental Health. Character Corral was held for the K-6 grade students in Hildreth.  The 6th graders lead each station about a character trait. We were featured in the Kearney Hub.
7. This week any teacher who is administering the NSCAS test will be doing a 2 hour training on how to administer the test. 
8. Community for Kids meeting update.

Mr. Shannon Lovin reported on the following:
1. A speaker from the Kim foundation came in and spoke about social/emotional health and suicide this past Monday.
2. FKC Quintet for instrumental music was held in Eustis on Thursday.  
3. Mr. Whipkey is giving the civics portion of the Naturalization test to the seniors this week on Thursday and Friday.  Teachers sent me information on what they did for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and are doing the same for Presidents’ week.  Mr. Trausch taught his unit on flag etiquette to the upper elementary students this past week.
4. FFA is going to the Cattleman’s Classic on Wednesday. 
5.Girls’ Sub-district basketball begins tonight @ Southern Valley.  We play Red Cloud at 6:30 with the winner playing Loomis tomorrow at 5:30. 
6. Our wrestlers competed in districts @ Southern Valley this past Friday and Saturday.  Lane Lieb qualified for state in Omaha this coming weekend at 145 pounds.  Class D is in the afternoon session this year with matches beginning at 4:00 p.m.  We will have a pep rally Thursday morning beginning between 8:35 and 8:40 in the gym.  All of the wrestlers, coaches, and fans represented us well.
7. This Saturday, Feb. 22^nd we play Harvard in boys only contests.  The JV begins at 5:00.  It is Senior Night for Cheerleading and Boys Basketball.  We will have recognition before the varsity game.  The Dazzlers will be performing at half-time.  Boys Basketball sub-districts will begin Feb. 25^th @ Southern Valley.  If they follow the same format our boys will play at 5:30 that day. 
8. Junior high basketball ends on Wednesday with the teams traveling to Pleasanton. 
9. Track and Golf practices begin on March 2^nd.
