I'm verifying that the Franklin Public School Board wants to continue doing so for the 2017 Summer Honors Program.
|

In the past the board has provided $200/student for the 2 students going to Washington Leadership Conference in July. |

2016-2017 Lunch Prices: K-4 $2.50 5-12 $3.00 Staff $3.50 Breakfast Prices: K-4 $1.70 5-12 $1.85 Staff $2.10

Lunch prices have remained the same during the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years.
|
10.7. Consider, Discuss and Approve Wonders K-6 Reading Curriculum Purchase for the 2017-2018 School Year
Rationale:
Total Cost for K-6 Reading Curriculum is $29,292.30. The current reading series, "Treasures" will no longer be available for print. Therefore we recommend replacing the series with "Wonders".
|
10.8. Consider, Discuss and Approve Math Expressions K-4 Math Curriculum
Rationale:
K-4 total Math Expressions Books is $25,167.15 After many years of using the Saxon Math series we have continued to see a gap in the mastery of essential skills for many of our students. The key to learning any new skill is focused instruction, supportive practice and repetition which through the spiraling component of Saxon we have been unable to achieve at the level for success of all our students. The Math Expressions series will help our students learn those essential foundational skills in an attempt to close some of those learning gaps and provide our K-4 students with a mastery of skills needed in the higher levels of math application. The Math Expression series also aligns with the Nebraska College and Career Ready Standards adopted by the district. |
10.9. Consider, Discuss and Approve Big Ideas 7-12 Math Curriculum
Rationale:
Grade 7, Grade 8, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 Total Cost of Math Books from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is $9,151.20 Over the last 10 years or so we have been using Saxon Math, which is a good series but has created two specific issues. First, is the fact that is spirals and therefore doesn't allow for enough practice on new knowledge. Second, is the fact that it is written at a 10th grade reading level and has caused issues for some of our average to below average students in just being able to read the book. Therefore, we have been looking at a new series to try and correct this issue. Big Ideas Math allows for us to have more practice problems for new knowledge as well as have some recurring problems so that new skills are not soon forgotten. It also has a lower reading level which will help our struggling students to hopefully do better. Overall the goal of this change will be to help student's do better at math, and hopefully be more prepared for the ACT and possibly college. |
10.10. Consider, Discuss and Approve Contract with Providence Working Canines for Safety Sweeps During the 2017-2018 School Year
|
10.11. Consider, Discuss and Approve 2nd. Reading of Proposed Wellness Policy 5417A
Rationale:
Attached is the newly suggested Wellness Policy with additional items highlighted. This is the policy that was suggested from the lawyers to replace our existing policy and one in which we feel needs to be adopted. The question of Open vs. Closed campus will no longer be a part of this policy, and was suggested by the committee that if we want to keep that the board needs to set a separate policy or have it placed in the handbook instead.

|
10.17. Consider, Discuss and Approve 50% Reimbursement to Kelsey Hanshaw for Completed Required Guidance Counseling Classes
