Description:
According to TEC, §28.004(a), the board of trustees of each school district shall establish a local SHAC to assist the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district's health education instruction.
The membership of SHAC should include persons from multiple groups including parents, community members, school district employees, and any other interested parties. The first meeting for the 2026-2027 school year is tentatively scheduled for Septer 17, 2026 at 12:00 pm pending your approval of the membership list. |

3.D. Discuss and Consider Action to Approve GISD's annual Certification of Compliance under Texas Education Code §39.008

Description:
Board approval is requested for GISD's annual Certification of Compliance under Texas Education Code §39.008, as established by Senate Bill 12. The certification is in reference to the District's compliance with TEC §§11.005 regarding the prohibition of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) duties and §28.0022 regarding certain instructional requirements and prohibitions. The certification must be approved by the Board and submitted electronically to the Texas Education Agency by September 30, beginning with the 2026-27 school year.

Approval of the calendar establishes a consistent framework for board oversight, aligns monitoring activities with the district's strategic goals, and supports transparency and accountability in governance practices throughout the year.
