2. Student Performance - 2020 Martin Luther King Jr Speech Contest 3rd-4th Grade Winner, Jesus Garcia
Presenter:
Dr. Bernardo Villar
Description:
Jesus is a 4th grader at Lincoln Elementary, a Spanish Immersion school. His teacher is Mr. Louis Skoube and his parents are Lliria Ortega and Geraldo Garcia. The excerpt he chose to present is from Dr. King’s speech "I’ve Been to the Mountaintop".
This is the last speech delivered by Dr. King on April 3, 1968. The speech was delivered In Memphis, TN at the Headquarters of the Mason Temple Church of God in Christ. On the following day, Dr. King was assassinated. The speech primarily concerns the Memphis Sanitation Strike. Dr. King calls for unity, economic actions, boycott, and nonviolent protests while challenging the U.S. to live up to its ideals. At the end of the speech, Dr. King discusses the possibility of an ultimate death. Jesus is presenting an excerpt of this speech in Spanish |
