IX.A. Consideration and Possible Action to Name the Ag Building at Florence High School as the Rosenbusch Agricultural Science Center in Honor and Recognition of the Rosenbusch's for their Dedication to the Students of Florence ISD
Presenter:
Rick Kirkpatrick
Description:
Policy CW(LOCAL) specifies the parameters by which the Board of Trustees may name a facility. One of the parameters is naming a facility after a, "Distinguished prominent citizens who have served the District or community, especially in service to children." Bobby Rosenbusch served as a teacher in our Ag Department for 31 years. His daughter, Melissa Rosenbusch, spent 28 years serving as a teacher in the Ag Department and is a Florence High School graduate. Between the two of them and their coworkers, they are responsible for 41 straight District Sweepstakes, a feat that is hard to fathom. Countless students have passed through their classrooms and have been taught lessons that will serve them for the remainder of their lives. Bobby is the teacher responsible for the creation of the FHS Meat Market, which continues to thrive today under his former student, Denielle Bailey.

IX.C. Consideration and Possible Action to Approve the Academic Calendar for the 2025-2026 School Year
Presenter:
Rick Kirkpatrick
Description:
Two draft versions of the calendar were presented to both my Buffalo Advisory Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee and they both chose the presented calendar. The calendar is very similar to the calendar adopted this year, providing for 169 school days for students, 187 days for teachers and aids, and 18 Professional Development Days, 5 of which will be student waiver days. The calendar provides a total of 81,220 instructional minutes when the professional development waiver is applied. The district would have 5620 excess minutes in the calendar should school be canceled for any reason.

IX.D. Consideration and Possible Action to Approve a New Course at Florence High School
Presenter:
Rick Kirkpatrick
Description:
Personal Financial Literacy and Economics is a new one-half credit high school course developed in response to Senate Bill (SB) 1063 and Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.025(b-22). Students may successfully complete either this new course or the Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits course to satisfy the half-credit economics requirement for high school graduation. This new economics course is part of the required secondary curriculum.
FHS is requesting to utilize the Personal Financial Literacy and Economics course as the course FHS will offer beginning during the 25 - 26 school year and no longer offer Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits. The new course addresses the need for students to be prepared to manage their finances once they leave their home. There is no cost for this change as the District already has the curriculum and instructional materials.
