Description:
Background:
The 2024-2025 Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) Dual Credit Partnership Agreement needs to be approved for the upcoming school year. Administrative Consideration: This annual agreement with TVCC requires approval for our high school students taking dual credit courses. Recommendation: Approve the agreement with TVCC as presented. IV.D.3. Consider Approving Out-of-State Travel for National Educator's Rising Conference
Description:
Background:
We have a student at Rains High School who won state and qualified for nationals at our TAFE Teach Tomorrow Summit. I would like to take this student and the next highest scoring student to compete and participate in the National Educators Rising Conference in Washington, D.C. June 27- July 1, 2024. Students will be able to immerse themselves in the historical experiences available in D. C. in addition to their networking and learning opportunities at the conference. Per board policy FMG(LOCAL) all out-of-state trips taken by student organizations or other student groups shall require approval from the Board. Requested by Sherri Cockrell, Rains High School Family and Consumer Science Teacher/TAFE Sponsor. Recommendation: The High School administration is requesting board approval for students and teacher to travel out of state to Washington, D. C. to participate in the National Educator's Rising Conference June 27-July 1, 2024. Board Action: As desired by Board |
IV.D.4. Consider Approval of Revisions to High School Cheer Constitution
Description:
Background:
There have been several circumstances that have made the high school cheer coaches reconsider the wording and punishments of the constitution. The high school cheer coaches presented the proposed revisions to the administrators at the high school where they were approved to be brought to the board for final approval. The proposed revisions are marked in the copy provided to the board in the board packet. Recommendation: Approve the recommended revisions to the high school cheer constitution as presented. IV.E. Consider, Discuss, and Approve Proposed Revision to Policy DEC(LOCAL): Compensation and Benefits- Leaves of Absences
Description:
Background and Rationale:
Rains ISD TASB Policy Consultant provided the district with the proposed revisions to Policy DEC(Local) reflecting the new injury and illness leave that was added to law in the last legislative session. Revisions are reflected on pages 4-5 of the policy in blue and red.
Mental Health Leave A District peace officer who experiences a traumatic event in the scope of employment shall be granted a maximum of five days of mental health leave per traumatic event. Such leave shall be provided in accordance with administrative regulations and shall not be deducted from the employee’s pay or leave balance. The Superintendent shall develop regulations regarding mental health leave that address the following: 1. Circumstances or reasons under which an eligible employee 2. Procedures for requesting mental health leave and maintaining the anonymity of the requester; 3. The administrator authorized to approve requests for mental health leave; and 4. Other procedures deemed necessary for administering this provision. Line of Duty Illness or Injury Leave of Absence Following a leave of absence with full pay as required by law, the District shall not extend the leave of absence for a police officer’s line of duty illness or injury. In accordance with law, the police officer may use accumulated leave. Recommendation:Approve the revisions in policy DEC(Local) adding the new injury and illness leave for Rains ISD peace officers as presented from TASB. Board Action: Board approval

IV.F. Board Member Continuing Education Hours Reporting
Description:
Background:
Announcing of Board Continuing Education Credit Hours according to
19 TAC 61.1(j); Education Code 11.159(b)The only action required is that a report of training-to-date is included in the minutes of this meeting. Trustees have until April 30th to complete any training needed for reporting purposes. Fulfill reporting requirements, as needed. Board Action: Board approval is not required for this informational report.
