Rationale:  This enables the Board to validate the published agenda and availability to the public.

Rationale:  Schools are required to hold a public hearing annually to review fees and/or materials supplied by students and to consider changes to the policy.  Additionally, schools are required to provide a complete list of fees and materials that students are expected to provide during the following school year.

It has been and continues to be reasonable to ask students to provide certain items or fees on a voluntary basis.  Students eligible to receive Free and/or Reduced Lunch benefits are also eligible to receive a waiver of any student fee or for the provision of certain items if required by the school.  Section 4 of the Revised Statute 79-2,127 provides that a governing body may require and collect fees or other funds from or on behalf of students or require students to provide specialized equipment or specialized attire for any of the following purposes:

Participation in extra-curricular activities.
Admission fees and transportation charges for spectators attending extra-curricular activities.
Postsecondary education costs.
Transportation pursuant to 79-241, 79-605 and 79-611.
Copies of student files or records pursuant to 79-2,104.
Reimbursement to the school for property lost or damaged by the student.
Before-and-after school or Pre-K services pursuant to 79-1104.
Summer or night school.
Parking.
Breakfast and lunch programs.

No fees, specialized equipment or attire may be required unless the maximum dollar amount of the fee, specifications of the specialized or non-specialized equipment or attire are specified in the student fee policy approved by the board.  Reimbursement for property lost or damages may be required without specification in the student fee policy.

For the 2021-22 school year, there were 142 waiver forms approved.

Rationale:  A parental involvement policy hearing is to be held annually according to statute 79-533.  This will review the district’s Parental Involvement Policy 1005.03 and Title 1 Family Member Engagement Policy 1005.12 and General Parental/Community Involvement in Schools.  

Rationale:  This is an annual review of the Bullying Policy 0504.20.  No changes to this policy are recommended at this time.  The last update and revision were provided by the NASB Policy Update Service in the Fall of 2020 and approved by the Board on October 12, 2020.

Rationale:  The admin team met during the spring semester after consulting legal counsel about updating and revising our student-parent handbooks.  The admin team chose to move forward with the Perry Law Firm's handbook template, which is a good compliment to our NASB Board Policy.

Included here are the current drafts of the 7-12 and elementary handbooks. The elementary handbook remains separate as elementary handbooks tend to have a slightly different approach then secondary handbooks.  The activities handbook is now part of the overall 7-12 handbook in an attempt to have a single document where parents and students can find information regarding rules and procedures.

The admins have been careful to preserve various policies that are important to ACS.  In short, the new handbook becomes a deeper resource but does not change our overall vision and approach for managing student conduct, issues, and processes. 

Please review the handbooks and let us know what questions you may have. We will bring the handbooks for approval at the July board meeting, as well as the 2022-23 Teacher/Staff Handbooks.

Rationale:  Loreece Thornton has agreed to assist the district by teaching HS Math for the 2022-23 school year while the district continues to search for a math teacher or consider other alternatives.  

Rationale:  The Board Curriculum, Americanism, and Multicultural Education Committee met on May 24th to discuss the SEBL curriculum that was reviewed and piloted by the teachers.  The principals were also present to discuss the process and view the scope and sequence of the program "Second Step" as well as the attributes of "School Connect".  

These two programs complement one another from the same company to create a K-12 approach to SEBL.  The plan would be to purchase 1 year worth of curriculum to start to continue a more thorough pilot with the intent to implement.

The cost for 1 year is $4,829 and will be paid for with ESSER III funds.  

Rationale:  The next regular meeting of the Board is scheduled for July 11, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. in the District Office. Current agendas will be available for public inspection in the office of the superintendent.
