WHEREAS, K.S.A. 72-1133 requires boards of education to elect the board president and vice-president at the first meeting on or after the second Monday in January of each year or at a later meeting date during the calendar year if so determined by the board at that first meeting;
WHEREAS, Unified School District No. 244, Coffey County, Kansas, must act each year on or after the second Monday in January or at a later meeting date during the calendar year to establish when it will elect its president and vice-president;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Board of Education of Unified School District No. 244, Coffey County, Kansas, will elect its school board president and vice-president at the first meeting on or after the second Monday in January.

K.S.A. 72-1133 requires that a President and Vice-President of the Board of Education be elected at the first meeting of the year in January.  Each term shall be for one year.
It is suggested that following nominations for each position, a show of hands be used followed by a motion for the successful candidate to the position.
Please Note:  A nomination does not require a ‘second’.  In the event that there is more than one individual nominated for a position, the board will need to vote by show of hands.  Following the determination of the individual with the majority support, the recommended motion can be offered.  If only one person is nominated, the motion above can be immediately offered.

WHEREAS, K.S.A. 72-1138 requires boards of education, at the first meeting on or after the second Monday in January or at a later date during that calendar year if so determined by the board at that first meeting, to adopt a resolution to establish its regular board meeting dates, times, and location, as well as the alternative date and time of any meeting if the regular meeting date falls on a Sunday or holiday;
WHEREAS, the board of education must act each year on or after the second Monday in January and before February 1 of each year or at a later date during the calendar year to establish its meeting dates, times, and location;
BE IT RESOLVED pursuant to K.S.A. 72-1138, that the Board of Education of Unified School District No. 244, Coffey County, Kansas, at its meeting on January 12, 2026, does hereby adopt this resolution to establish the day of the week, week of the month, time, and location for regular board of education meetings and any alternative meeting dates
to be held during the 2026/2027 school year at its July 13, 2026, board meeting.
If the established meeting date falls on a Sunday, a legal holiday, or a holiday specified by the board of education, such regular meeting will be held on the day following, commencing at the same hour and location as detailed above.
The Board of Education reserves the right to adjourn any regular meeting to another time and/or place.

Public Content:  The Board of Education wishes to be responsive to the community and welcomes patrons at all meetings.  Requests to speak may be made when the board president asks if any visitors have items to bring to the attention of the board. Speakers are asked to limit their remarks to five (5) minutes or less and groups with the same special interest may be asked to appoint a spokesperson.

The 2024-2025 financial records were audited by representatives from Jarred, Gilmore and Phillips, PA. 

The district audit report is attached.  Also enclosed with that report was the summary letter to the board. 

A representative will be present at the meeting to present the audit and answer any questions the board may have.  If board members have questions, please feel free to contact the office so that the questions can be forwarded to the auditor before the meeting so that he has time to prepare responses for the meeting. 

Public Content:  Results policy R-1 deals with the board’s expectations of students concerning academic skills.  The indicators for measuring progress toward meeting this end are noted in colored font.  This policy and indicators state: All students will demonstrate a strong foundation in academic skills by working toward excellence in:

• Mathematics (KS Assessments, MAP Math total and subtests, ACT trends in Math, advanced math enrollment)
• Reading  (KS Assessments, MAP Reading total and subtests, ACT trends in Reading)
• Writing  (KS Writing Assessment, MAP Language Arts total and subtests, ACT trends in English)
• Science (KS Assessments, advanced science enrollment)
• Social Studies (KS Assessments)
• Communication Skills (KS Assessment, MAP Language Arts total and subtests)

To ensure academic success of our students, students must take responsibility for their own learning, evaluate
personal progress toward learning goals, effectively solve problems, and apply academic knowledge to practical
situations.

The administrative team will present information to the board concerning our current status in the above area.  Their presentation will include results from the state assessments of reading, writing and communications achievement and the ACT test at BHS.

Public Content:  The following items were approved during negotiations regarding supplemental contract revisions, but were omitted in error during revision of the negotiated agreement document.

Amended Item:

• Move Flag Corps supplemental percentage from 5% to 3%.
• Move BHS Concessions to one position at 8% (was 2 positions at 3% each), and BMS Concessions to 6% (was 1 position at 4%).

The board approved Jarred, Gilmore and Phillips, PA as the district auditor at the end of 2019.  The total fee for the 2024-2025 financial audit was $10,300.

The fee for the 2025-2026 financial audit shall not exceed $7,700 without a single audit and the additional fee for the Single Audit will not exceed $2,900 per major program. The board is asked to approve the engagement letter with Jarred, Gilmore and Phillips, PA for the 2025-2026 financial audit in the amount of $10,600.

Public Content:  USD #244 received one bid from Acoustic Stretched Fabric Systems, Inc. in the amount of $43,888.00 for the replacement of the BHS Multimedia Room acoustic wall material.

Public Content:  We received one sealed bid from Brian Shank for the purchase of the BHS Shed in the amount of $1,555.00

Payment should be made to the district and the shed removed from USD #244 property no later than February 13, 2026.
