6.A. Brotherhood in Action Food Drive
Rationale:
In another example of the “Bethel Way” the Bethel community reached out to those in need and donated food items to Bethel Brotherhood in Action Food Drive. "The Bethel Brotherhood in Action would like to thank all those who donated food and helped with the sorting, packing and delivery. Approximately 7 tons of food went out to 93 Bethel families thanks to your generosity of time, talent and treasure. And guess what? The Christmas food drive is now officially on!!! Food can be dropped off at St Mary Church and Caraluzzi's in Bethel. Our Christmas schedule is sorting on Dec 17, packing on the 18th and delivery the 23rd." |
6.B. Operation Sweet Tooth
Rationale:
I’d like to share with you another example of the “Bethel Way.” This message was sent from a family friend of Bethel Cadet Sean Lohle to LCDR Dwinells. LCDR Dwinells & Bethel's Navy JROTC Students, The cadets, together with many children of Bethel and with the help of the Bethel Gentle Dental office, collected candy after Halloween and sent it to our "Ambassadors of Bethel" serving overseas. This was a gesture of good will which we hope had a lasting impression on the children here in Bethel and overseas. Please take a look at the pictures of these smiling Afghani children. |
6.C. Rockwell School Cited as a “School of Distinction”
Rationale:
Last week the State Department of Education released school performance indices for every public school in the state. These reports are based on CMT and CAPT scores and reflect the state’s new accountability system. Three of Bethel’s schools, Berry School, Rockwell School, and Bethel Middle School were classified as “Excelling.” This is the states highest designation for academic performance. Johnson School and Bethel High School were classified as “Transitioning” because of slight dips in performance. Rockwell School was cited as one of the top performing schools in the state. We are very proud of the students and staff at Rockwell and look forward to even greater success! Bethel’s schools are very strong academically. We routinely outperform more affluent neighboring districts. Our mission is to improve achievement for all of our students. As we continue the transition to Core standards we also continue to review and improve our intervention systems so we can ensure that every child has his or her academic needs met. While there is much work to do yet, there is also much to celebrate. |
