Informational/Discussion - Artificial Intelligence (AI) Academic Model
Description:
The administrators will share their thoughts at the board meeting. The administrative team met with Dr. Alexander on Thursday. Ms. Overholt and Ms. Hymes of LSOA were included in the meeting. After the meeting, I believe the consensus of the RCISD administrative team is that there is a high interest. The opportunity is intriguing with AI being the next big thing coming to society. The interest is there as long as RCISD remains in control of the design and implementation process with the assistance of CEN.

Informational: RCISD to opt-out or opt-in to Senate Bill 401 to allow homeschool students to participate in UIL activities
Description:
This is an information item for July. If the board will prefer to opt out of SB 401, we must do so by September 1, 2025 for the 2025-26 school year. In subsequent school years, the deadline to make changes will be August 1st. We continue to research the impact of this law.
We bring this to the attention of the board to start contemplating the issue. The district must opt out in order to decline students from participating. If the district does not opt-out, then the district will allow homeschool students to participate in UIL activities. If the district allows homeschool students to participate, then students whom reside within its boundaries must be allowed to participate. The district may allow homeschool students to participate that do not within its boundaries but are not required to allow them. Additionally, homeschool students living outside the district's boundaries must reside in a district that opted out of SB 401. Moreover, RCISD must be the closest geographical district that allows homeschool participation. The District Executive Committee will make the determination of geographical proximity. These are the current understanding of the law. I have been visiting with other superintendents and professionals. In the past, I have been against allowing homeschool students to participate. However, with the passing of SB 401, I may be changing my position. I have more research and conversation to do. |
