Description:
Summary: When a school district is required to expend additional funds to respond to a disaster, including hurricanes, and the Governor requests federal disaster assistance, the school district is permitted to adopt a tax rate without an election for the year following the year in which the disaster occurred. In July of 2024, Texas was impacted by Hurricane Beryl causing widespread power outages and damage in counties across Texas, including Gregg County. In response, the Governor requested, and the federal government granted federal funds to remediate the concerns. WOISD incurred additional expenditures related to power outages and facility damage as a result of Hurricane Beryl. As such, the District is proposing a tax rate with 3.0 enrichment pennies for disaster recovery pursuant to Texas Tax Code section 26.042(e).
