October 9, 2015 at 4:00 PM - Superintendent's Weekly Update to the Board of Education
Agenda |
---|
1. Support Staff Honored at Banquet / Awards Ceremony
Description:
Please see attached a news release recognizing four of our school employees. They were voted on last spring by the other Royalton School District employees. Tony Duevel (not pictured), Myra Jensen, Sue Oelrich and Dawn Towle. |
2. Royalton Preliminary Sound System Proposal
Description:
I asked David and Mr. Coppicus to look into a sound system for our board meetings. Unfortunately, the cost is too expensive for what we need. David had a good recommendation. Because we will have our board meetings in one of the future preschool rooms we can use the sound system being installed in there. It means we'll have to wait until next year. The alternative is spending $7,000 which all three of us think is just too much. |
3. Encroachment Agreement
Description:
Please see attached an encroachment agreement our school law firm drafted for Royalton School District and the City of Royalton to approve. The City of Royalton agreed an encroachment agreement is what both parties really want instead of the conditional use permit. Mary wants to verify the survey with Design Tree. Then, we'll place the document in our October board agenda for approval. Remember this agreement allows us to build the secure front entrance and expand the lunch room at our elementary school. We will be constructing beyond the Royalton School District's property line. |
4. Wrestling Investigation
Description:
Kelly Burns completed her last interview this week. It is her intent to have a report ready for the Board next week. She doesn't want to rush it, however, because it's more than an internal investigation. The public will have access to much of the information. She wants to analyze and communicate the findings correctly. |
5. Hillyard's Cleaning Cost Analysis Program (CCAP) Results for Royalton Elementary and MS-HS
Description:
This past summer, we asked Amy Hedtke from Hillyard to complete a cleaning cost analysis of our two school buildings. Today, I received an email with lots of data and the study results. You can find all of the information attached in this Friday letter. Tony and I are meeting with Amy next week to receive an interpretation of the data. I anticipate being ready to share the highlights of the study or key talking points at the October board meeting. |
6. Opposing School Bond Hurts Home Values
Description:
I came across a St. Cloud Times article you may find interesting. I'd say Royalton School District is one of those "surrounding communities" with a top-notch education. And only getting better each school year! |
7. Osakis Supt. Message about Decling District Enrollment
Description:
Someone placed the October 2015 Osakis District Newsletter in my school mailbox. Being a curious individual I briefly paged through it. I found it interesting and unfortunate Osakis School District is experiencing a declining student enrollment after setting a new school record in 2013-14. They are down 50 students since then. I do not know of a single fact as to the cause of their declining enrollment. I do wonder if Alexandria's new high school has anything to do with less students open-enrolling. Osakis is like Royalton School District in that it depends on a fair number of open-enrolled families to be fiscally solvent while providing a good quality education. |
8. Osakis Trap Team Right on Target!
Description:
I came across this article too in the Osakis District Newsletter. I thought you may be interested in knowing about another similar size and demographic school in the area that started up trap shooting. |
9. Weekly Bills
Description:
Please see attached the weekly bills for your approval. |
