Members of the public may address the Board for three minutes.  It is Board policy to not respond to public comment.

V. Organization of the Board of Education
Per Bylaw 0151, The Board of Education shall organize annually on the first Thursday in January on which school is in session at a meeting held for that purpose.  The meeting shall be called to order by the Superintendent or the ranking officer of the preceding Board who shall serve as presiding officer until the election of a temporary chairperson, who shall in turn serve until the election of a President (M.C.L. 168.302).

VI. Officers
Per Bylaw 0152, the Board shall elect a President and Vice-President as well as a Secretary and Treasurer.

Election of officers shall be by a majority of the full Board. Where no such majority exists on the first ballot vote, a second vote shall be cast for the two (2) candidates who received the greatest number of ballot votes.

Except for those appointed to fill a vacancy, officers shall serve for one (1) year and until their respective successors are elected and shall qualify.  An officer may be removed for cause by a majority vote of the full Board.  The Board shall fill a vacancy in any Board officer position within thirty (30) days of the occurrence of the vacancy (M.C.L. 380.11a).

RECOMMENDED MOTION: "that the Lansing Board of Education authorize the use of law firms on the Board’s approved list of firms as detailed in the enclosure."

VII.C. Designate Depositories for School Funds (M.C.L. 380.1221)
RECOMMENDED MOTION: "that the designation of depositories for Lansing School District funds contained in the enclosures be reaffirmed.”

VII.D. Designate Auditing Firm
RECOMMENDED MOTION: "that the designation for a firm to conduct the annual external audit of accounts as detailed in the enclosure, be reaffirmed.”

VII.E. Designate those persons authorized to sign checks, contracts, agreements, and purchase orders
RECOMMENDED MOTION: "that the Lansing Board of Education designate persons authorized to sign checks, contracts, agreements, and purchase orders as detailed in the enclosure.”

VII.F. Designate a day, place, and time for regular meetings which shall be held at least once every month; and designate a day for regular study sessions of the Board
RECOMMENDED MOTION: "that the proposed meeting dates for the Lansing Board of Education as detailed in the enclosure be approved for the 2018 calendar year."

VII.G. Determine fee charged to individuals who request notice of board meetings; (M.C.L. 15.266)
RECOMMENDED MOTION: "that the Board of Education determine a fee to charge individuals who request notice of board meetings."

VII.H. Appoint Lansing Board of Education Parliamentarian   
RECOMMENDED MOTION: "that the Lansing Board of Education appoint Mary Kay Scullion as the Lansing Board of Education Parliamentarian.”

VII.I. Appoint staff person responsible for posting public notices of meetings of the Board of Education
RECOMMENDED MOTION: "that the Lansing Board of Education appoint Janelle Jenkins-Coe as the staff person responsible for posting public notices of meetings of the Lansing Board of Education.”

VII.J. Appoint Title IX Representative
RECOMMENDED MOTION: "that Dr. Mark Coscarella be designated as the Lansing School District Title IX Representative.”

VII.K. Appoint Lansing School District FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) Officer
RECOMMENDED MOTION: "that Myrical Barton and Regan Henderson be designated as the Lansing School District FOIA Officers.” 

VII.L. Designate Board Secretary as the Representative to the Ingham School Officers Association
RECOMMENDED MOTION: "that the Lansing Board of Education designate the Lansing School District Board of Education Secretary as the representative to the Ingham School Officers Association."

VII.M. Distribution of Conflict of Interest Policies
It shall be noted in the record that each Board member received a dated copy of Revised Bylaw Sections 0144.3 and 0144.4 detailing Conflict of Interest policies, as required by the Board of Education by-laws, in enclosures.
