10.A. Acknowledgements and Recognition
Presenter:
Superintendent Tony Scurto
Description:
Special Education Director Sue Mathisen wishes to recognize and extend gratitude to the following teachers and consultants for being team-players on a day that there was a large substitute shortage:
Elevate Lane County's work was featured in two October 2 Register-Guard Blue Chip magazine articles. Elevate Lane County provides student tours of local tech firms, job shadows on early release and no-school days, and externships for students and educators. The Migrant Education Program's Summer Adventures Class used Ford's Pond in Sutherlin as the focus of their three-week class. The class visited, researched, and created presentations on what they would like to see at Ford's Pond. The students' speeches on July 12 at Sutherlin's West Intermediate School offered insight from a needed youth perspective. The Register-Guard published an article featuring the new tech apprentice program heading to Lane County. The Register-Guard also followed the story of Reilly Gault's community support to purchase specialized glasses that help him see the world. Reilly performed for the Board last Spring and also performed at the retirement reception in June. Now in its tenth year, the 20 Under 40 Awards recognize 20 emerging business leaders who are making a difference in the community. The awards acknowledge each winner's commitment to career excellence and making the Eugene-Springfield area a better place to live. They are nominated by members of the public, with the final winners chosen by a panel of judges. Connected Lane County's Director, Heidi Larwick, is a winner this year. The Register-Guard's Blue Chip magazine featured Heidi and the other winners in it's December 4, 2017 edition. |

Kudos can be shared at the Board meeting or submitted using the agency's online Kudos! form at www.lesd.k12.or.us/forms/kudos.html
The following kudos were submitted via the online form in November: Kudos to: Jeri Ingallinero and Julie Simmonds Reported by: Carol Knobbe Reason: Thank you for the work to get assurances forms and letters of support on short notice for our AABSS grant. It was a nail-biter at times, but it all came together! Kudos to: Robin, Brad, John V., Cameron Reported by: Julie Reason: For all the behind the scenes work you provided to prepare for the Board meeting at the Westmoreland campus. Thank you so much! Kudos to: David, Michelle and Dave Reported by: Lisa Baber Reason: Thank you for all the help you gave me for September and October payroll. Kudos to: Jeannette Crocker Reported by: Lisa Baber Reason: Thank you for doing such a good job on the time sheets every month. Kudos to: Lori Dodsen Reported by: Niels Pasternak Reason: Lori hasn't missed a day of work all school year and she has won the annual prize that we do by being the last person in our class to miss a day. Way to go Lori! Kudos to: Dawn Hassman Reported by: Niels Pasternak Reason: Dawn has been doing excellent work with our students at Reality Kitchen and has been a very reliable and positive presence in our classroom. She also has a weird sense of humor that we enjoy. Kudos to: Bob Uhler Reported by: Niels Pasternak Reason: Bob is always a positive influence in our program and he drives the activity bus for us at least once a week which really helps since he is the only one who can. Also Bob is a team player and a pleasure to be around. Kudos to: Melony Bamforth Reported by: Niels Pasternak Reason: Melony is very dedicated to our students and puts in extra work to support them. Last summer Melony volunteered in ESY to help a student have a good transition to summer school and came in on two different occasions commuting from out of town just to make sure he was set up for success. Melony is also funny and maintains a positive attitude even when life circumstances make it hard to do so. |
