Superintendent Larry Sullivan Assistant Superintendent Carol Knobbe: LESD technology staff held a "show and tell" for staff to attend on the afternoon of November 9th. The event was a hands on demonstration of newly installed projectors, new equipment for checkout, and new phone conferencing features. Cameron Yee, Christina Okesson, Pete Lauf and Daniele McCallum planned the event, both Cameron and Pete gave presentations to staff on how to use the equipment effectively in their work. Daniele McCallum followed up with an email for staff that were unable to attend. Carlos Sequeira: Dr. Sequeira would like to recognize the members of the department of Instruction, Equity and Partnership for their support in helping him transition into the Director position. One of the team goals identified early on when the department shared its hopes and aspirations for this year was to foster "open and transparent communication" in the department in order to know how to best support one another in our daily work. The demands of our job very often take us out of our of offices to serve staff and student from all 16 districts across Lane county, which has made it challenging for all to consistently be in the same room to share our work. Nonetheless, we have systems in place which helps us stay informed. We have googlelized our agenda minutes and upcoming events, and also created a blog where which is then shared within our department and the schools and organizations that we work with (See our latest November Blog). I want to give a special shout out to our Program Assistants, Jeri Ingallinero, Becky Schmitt and Kathy Mayer, who do a phenomenal job in helping us achieve our goal of "open and transparent communication not only within our department, but also with the hundreds of educators that walk through our doors on a daily basis to be part of professional development and organizational meetings. They are competent in what they do, and they do it with a smile and positive attitude. They make us look good and organized by having the rooms ready, taking care of the logistics for dozens of workshops and professional development we offer. They are the welcoming face that folks first see when they walk into our building. On behalf of the department, we are grateful and thankful for who they are and the work they do. Dave Standridge Sue Mathisen: Lane ESD received funding from the Youth Transition Program (YTP) to pilot an Employment Support Facilitator position for our Life Skills Transition program, serving students with intellectual disablities on our Westmoreland Campus. This supports coordination with Vocational Rehabilitation toward fulfillment of Oregon's Employment First Policy, which addresses a significant reduction over time of state support of sheltered work and an increased investment in employment services. Employment Support Facilitator, Leslie Cooley is in the process of developing three new community work sites at: TJ Maxx, Trader Joes & Performance Mobility. Our students have the opportunity to work on skills acquisition which will increase their chance of being actively employed upon graduation. |
