Public Comment Sign In Procedure - Anyone wishing to address the Board of Education must submit a written request form, found on the public’s table, prior to Public Comments.

The Board reserves the right to move into closed session to protect the public interest or needless injury to the reputation of an individual for any action item listed on the agenda. The Board may, at its discretion, change the order of the agenda to accommodate unforeseen issues related to an agenda item.

Rationale: 

The Ralston Board of Education appreciates the public's right to provide public comment.  It is the practice of the Ralston Board to listen to the public comment, without discussion between the public and the Board.  Should you have a question or ask for follow-up from the Board, the Board President will direct the Superintendent to address the requests and provide additional information to you as appropriate.  We ask that you refrain from personal comments about individuals and the use of vulgar or inappropriate language in addressing the Board. 

The board will generally allow a total of 30 minutes for the presentation of all public comments.  Individuals may only speak one time per topic and must limit comments to around three (3) minutes. In the event more than 10 individuals wish to address the board, the 30 minutes will be divided equally between the number of speakers. At the discretion of the Board President or Chair, speakers may be allotted additional time.

At this time the Ralston Public Schools Board of Education will entertain public comment.

Recommend the following teacher(s) be hired for the 2021-22 school year:
Jason Fink — Director of Technology. Jason is moving from a teacher contract to an administrative contract and will continue with the same responsibilities.
Scott Greenwood - RHS - Science.  BA-University of North Texas, MA-University of North Texas.   Previous experience: Papillion/LaVista Public Schools Remote Teacher (2020-21); Millard Public Schools Long Term Sub (2018-20); Frisco, TX School District (1996-2017).

Mr. Joe Kohout, District Lobbyist, will be on hand to provide a final overview of the legislative session and preview interim study topics and items of interest during the recess.

Rationale:  Each year Ralston Public Schools conducts the Humanex InsightEX Culture and Climate Assessment with all staff members.  Dr. Adler and Dr. Wilken will review the assessment results with the Board of Education.

Rationale:  Mr. Jason Buckingham will provide a DRAFT overview of the 2021-2022 District Budget for the Board of Education and Administration.  Although approved in September, the District budget is reviewed and adjusted many times prior to final approval.  Mr. Buckingham will outline current parameters and take feedback and answer questions from the Board of Education.

The provided itemized preliminary budget sheet and summary sheet will explain major changes.

Rationale:  Mrs. Robin Richards will update the Board of Education on items and information that is under consideration with the Nebraska Association of School Boards.

Rationale:  The Papio-Missouri Natural Resources District has been working with municipalities in the preparation of a Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.  This collaborative plan allows for coordinated efforts in the event a need arises.  Approval of the resolution allows for RPS and others to be eligible for future FEMA support if needed.

Rationale:  Ralston Public Schools issued a request for proposals for organizations to complete a comprehensive phone survey to gather information and feedback from voters on a potential bond referendum to upgrade District facilities.  The administration will review submitted proposals with the Board of Education and ask for contract approval based upon RFP results.

Cognia Standard 1.5 - The governing authority adheres to a code of ethics and functions within the defined roles and responsibilities.  Board Policy 2001, Role of the Board of Education.

Rationale:  The administration will present DRAFT student handbook changes for Ralston Elementary Schools, Ralston Middle School, and Ralston High School for the 2021-2022 School Year.  An outline of suggested changes will be presented and feedback and questions will be addressed.  The Administration asks that student handbooks be approved at the July 12th meeting of the Board of Education.

Rationale:  Dr. Mark Adler will review all the proposed Board of Education Policies that are suggested to be updated for the 2021-2022 school year from our policy service.  Dr. Adler will outline the suggested policies and changes with the Board of Education and address any questions or concerns.  At the July 12, 2021, meeting of the Board of Education the administration would ask for approval of the identified policies and suggested revisions.
