Public Comment Sign In Procedure - Anyone wishing to address the Board of Education must submit a written request form, found on the public’s table, prior to Public Comments.

The Board reserves the right to move into closed session to protect the public interest or needless injury to the reputation of an individual for any action item listed on the agenda. The Board may, at its discretion, change the order of the agenda to accommodate unforeseen issues related to an agenda item.

Rationale: 

The Ralston Board of Education appreciates the public's right to provide public comment.  It is the practice of the Ralston Board to listen to the public comment, without discussion between the public and the Board.  Should you have a question or ask for follow-up from the Board, the Board President will direct the Superintendent to address the requests and provide additional information to you as appropriate.  We ask that you refrain from personal comments about individuals and the use of vulgar or inappropriate language in addressing the Board. 

The board will generally allow a total of 30 minutes for the presentation of all public comments.  Individuals may only speak one time per topic and must limit comments to around three (3) minutes. In the event more than 10 individuals wish to address the board, the 30 minutes will be divided equally between the number of speakers. At the discretion of the Board President or Chair, speakers may be allotted additional time.

At this time the Ralston Public Schools Board of Education will entertain public comment.

Consent agenda items include minutes from the June 24 meeting; June Financial Reports, June bills in the amount of $632,140.09 for the General Fund, and $580.00 for the Building Fund. Prior to the meeting Heather Johnson and Mary Roarty reviewed the bills.  Teaching contract for E. Danielle Jackson, Reading Specialist BL/KW.

Rationale:  Mr. Jeremy Maskel will provide an update on the progress and work within the District Communications Department.

Rationale:  Federal regulations require annual analysis of school lunch prices for organizations that participate in the Federal school lunch program.  Mr. Buckingham will outline current school lunch prices and options to consider in increasing the 2019/2020 school lunch prices to meet Federal regulations.  The administration would ask that the Board of Education approve school lunch prices for the 2019/2020 school year at the July 8th Meeting of the Board of Education.

Rationale:  Prior to the meeting tonight the Board of Education conducted a public hearing to encourage feedback and input on the recommended 2019/2020 Student Fees for Ralston Public Schools.  The administration would ask the Board of Education for approval of the 2019/2020 Student Fees list.

The Board and Administration will review proposed policies.

AdvancED Standard 1.5 - The governing authority adheres to a code of ethics and functions within the defined roles and responsibilities.  Board Policy 2001, Role of the Board of Education and Legal Status.

Rationale:  Mr. Jeremy Maskel will talk with the Board of Education on the progress of Policy 2015--Student Involvement in Decision Making, a policy the Board asked Dr. Adler and the administrative team to develop based upon information gained at the National School Board Convention earlier this year.  If the policy looks acceptable to the Board of Education it will be advanced for approval later in July.

Rationale:  Dr. Adler and members of the Administration will outline suggested student handbook changes for 2019/2020 Elementary, Middle, and High School student handbooks.  All suggested handbook changes are in redline format and an overview document of changes is also provided for review.  The administration would ask that the Board of Education consider approval of the 2019/2020 Student Handbooks for Elementary, Middle, and High School at the July 8th Meeting of the Board of Education.

Rationale:  The administration will present the recommended changes to the Board of Education Policies as recommended by the District's Policy Service.  The 2019/2020 Board of Education Policy Update is the result of changes in state and federal law over the last year as well as needed procedural changes identified.
