3.A. The May Student Spotlight features the music programs at Park View elementary school. The opportunity to participate in music helps students explore new interests and passions. By playing and composing music, students make new connections with their learning and their school community. Park View students Macey Hilliard and Neliel Marion will perform an original song while playing ukuleles.

3.B. A new collection of artwork, displayed in the boardroom, comes to us courtesy of Park View and Westfield elementary schools. Our awesome artistic students are: Adriel Baetcke, Betsy Estry, Jemimah Hnem, Wren Kusic, Dominic Oldham, Olivia Peasley, Sophia Ploskonka, Patrick Rodriguez, Damian Sotiroff, Jacob Thielenhouse, Charles Thune and Connor Wytock. Thank you to art teachers Nicole Buettner and Dawn Weathers for their assistance in providing this opportunity to showcase District 89 students.

3.C. Thank you to Lauren Angelico, Christine Aughenbaugh, Stephanie Furlong and Nicole Lenocker who have served as the PTC presidents in our schools, for their tireless efforts and commitment to the students, staff and families of D89.

3.D. Congratulations to the students who were selected for the Illinois Principals Association student recognition. These students were chosen for their academic achievement, citizenship in school, leadership among their peers, and integrity in their school work. The following students represent the next generation of leaders in their schools and our community: Daniela Alvarez, Sofia Arriaga, Cameron Cernauske, Caiden Dvornik, Aubrey Flanigan, Madison Kamin, Kyra Krapausky and Avery Menconi.

3.E. On Sunday, April 28, Glen Crest students participated in the Special Olympics at Marmion Academy. Michael Benjamin, Jason Stephens, John Scheer, Quinn Ruden and Srisharan Burra. This group was coached by Kelly Nordlund. |
3.F. May 6 through May 10 was National Teacher Appreciation Week. We would like to express our appreciation for every CCSD 89 staff member who contributes to students' learning for life. Despite challenging circumstances over the last three school years, the staff has found innovative and inspiring ways to ensure students' academic success.

3.G. National School Nurse Day was celebrated on May 6, 2024. District 89 recognizes that nurses are critical to the health, safety and well-being of our students. They meet the needs of today’s students by providing and advocating for quality student-centered care and offers gratitude for the nation’s school nurses. We honor the work and commitment of our outstanding nurses: Stephanie Laloggia, Sandy Lawinger, Amy McKenna, Amy Mescher, Toni Poyser and Casey Reynolds.

3.H. We would like to thank our student board members, Molly Clarin and Aspen Usalis. Molly and Aspen have been a welcomed addition to the CCSD 89 school board and provided great perspective representing the student community. Thank you, Molly and Aspen for your service to CCSD 89. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

3.I. As the school year comes to a close, we offer our best wishes to the entire eighth grade class from Glen Crest Middle School. The Achievement Ceremony will be held at Glenbard South High School, Thursday, May 30, 2024, 7:30pm. We wish all our students good luck and success in high school!

12. Closed Session
The Board will enter into closed session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the District or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity as allowed by Section 2 5ILCS 120/2(c)(1), to discuss collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees as allowed by Section 2 5ILCS 120/2(c)(2), to discuss student disciplinary cases as allowed by Section 2 ILCS 120/2(c)(9) and for the purpose of litigation, when an action against, affecting or on behalf of the District has been filed and is pending before a court or administrative tribunal, or when the public body finds that an action is probable or imminent, in which the basis for the finding shall be recorded and entered into the minutes of the closed meeting as allowed by Section 2 5ILCS 120/2(c)(11). |
