September 6, 2023 at 12:30 PM - Educational Resources Committee Meeting

Discussion:  Meeting called to order at 12:30PM.

Staff:  Kraig Lofquist, Deb Hericks, Priscilla Quintana, Scott Isaacson.  

Discussion:  Amy Rhone, NDE, was present to give NDE updates from the Office of Special Education.  Data was shared on district levels of determinations and planning region team.  There is an opportunity for professional learning (not required) for district leadership teams in the needs improvement areas.  The department is working on addressing legislation - LB705, LB298, LB583/818.  Coherence Project continues to work on aligning work. The 2023 NeMTSS Summit is on October 12-13, at the Younes Center North.

Discussion:  Lona Nelson-Milks was present to share some ESPD updates.  They are working to get final financials entered by the end of October.  Working through the monitoring with schools, review processes in place, professional development, etc.  

Discussion:  Mental Health Regional Conference May 29/30 and May 31 is NE Mental Health Conference in Omaha.  

Discussion:  Our team is happy to welcome Todd Hatcher to our team in the role of project manager and IT support. Todd comes to us from ESU 16 and is off to a great start. He has been assisting with helpdesk, server infrastructure support and training. Rita McKinney and Todd Hatcher have led 10 training events for SRS both through in-person and Zoom, hosted by ESU student services directors. These will continue with three more in September and one 504 training session. The SRS knowledge base has a set of useful articles for assistance in using the system and it is available at: https://nebraska.jitbit.com/helpdesk/KB/Category/117062-srs-idea SRS has been certified and is publishing 2023-2024 ADVISER data, which is ahead of previous years. We continue to aim toward reducing errors and manual effort required in the ADVISER reporting process. The SRS Advisory team has full meetings quarterly throughout the year, and monthly check-ins on the months between those meetings. Anthony Maggio is working through forms changes the advisory team have identified. We continue working on updating the database and software code of SRS. The changes will go through testing and accumulate for release in the summer of 2024.

Discussion:  No report was given.  NDE has an annual data collection of core materials has been open for a few weeks. 

Discussion:  Michelle Keszler was present to give updates from SDA.  Brooke Kavan is the new representative for strategists.  They will continue to have SDA Connects sessions.  the SDA needs assessment closed yesterday, strategists will be meeting to go over the results.  On November 8/8 training will be Data Driven Dialog.  April Training - first day will be working with NDE and day two topics have not been decided.  

Discussion:  Shirley Vargas was present to give NDE updates.  All CSI schools have been announced.  There will be a brief session during lunch on the second day of PDO.  NDE Board meeting will be Thursday/Friday in Aurora.  The NDE Board will make a declaration that September will be Attendance Awareness Month.  Accountability season is upon us.  Derek Ippensen is new to the accountability team.  NDE approved the cut scores at their last meeting.  Allysn DenBeste shared that there will be revision of the Science Standards this year.  An assessment team are conducting a roadshow. There are five opportunities to attend.
