Information Item

Cory Epler was present to give updates for HQIM. K-8 Math Acceleration Project - focusing on acceleration vs mediation. This project is co-designed and will be three years in length. Six ESUs ESUs 2,7,10,13,16,17) will be partners in this program. They are helping to create materials using MTSS framework and HQIM. NE College and Career Ready Standards for ELA Standards rollout resources. Did a training with SDA on the ELA standards.
K-8 Math Acceleration Project In the next three years, there is a continued need and opportunity to strengthen the way our educational system supports instruction and attends to unfinished learning using the NeMTSS framework. State and national data have highlighted that student learning in mathematics has been particularly affected this past year, particularly for Students with Disabilities (SWDs) and English Learners (ELs). In particular, we know that missing early foundations in math will compound future learning challenges for students in mathematics. As a result, districts, schools and educators can support unfinished learning and acceleration in mathematics so that grade-level instruction can occur while targeting support for historically underserved students through a multi-tiered system of support. While the NDE can ensure efforts are aligned and marshal state energy and resources to provide support, our ESUs have a unique perspective on what districts truly need and how to facilitate that support. With that in mind, the NDE is seeking working with a set of ESU and district partners to co-create, test, and continuously improve a set of approaches to strengthen K-8 mathematics instruction through a multi-tiered system of support. This work builds on high-quality instructional materials for core mathematics instruction while attending to unfinished learning so districts are equipped with individualized supports and levers to improve instruction in mathematics for all students. The participating ESUs and districts include:
Nebraska’s College and Career Ready Standards for ELA: Standards Rollout Resources The NDE, in partnership with ESUs, has developed a 4-session, turnkey professional learning series that can be used by ESUs, districts, and schools to support exploration of the revised ELA standards. Materials include slide presentations, note catchers, and other resources needed to facilitate the sessions. The purpose of the sessions is to articulate a shared, statewide vision of excellent ELA and literacy instruction for all Nebraska students. Session participants will gain understanding of the major standards revisions and how they contribute to the instructional vision and will be equipped with resources as districts move into initial implementation of the standards. Session 1: The Standards in Instruction and Session 2: The 2021 ELA Standards and Shifts, are now available at https://www.education.ne.gov/ela/. Session 3: The Standards and Materials and Session 4: Preparing to Implement will be available in December, as well as pre-recorded presentations to be used by individual teachers or other school leaders. The sessions are designed to be customized by individual ESUs or districts to reflect the teachers participating in the professional learning. Additional resources including the implementation overview and 2014/2021 ELA standards crosswalk is located here. For more information, contact Dr. Marissa Payzant (marissa.payzant@nebraska.gov). |
